Baki Hanma is the series at its best, which is a series of absolutely zero-stakes conflicts between the world's strongest men interspersed with the entire history of martial arts explained through Chat-GPT hallucinations.

Re: Copyrights, Trademarks, Patents, and branding irons

The Ed Sheeran lawsuit is a threat to Western civilization. Really. I mean it's nice that we're finally getting copyright op/eds with headlines like that in the Washington Post, but y'know, copyright law and enforcement have been utterly deranged for the past 30 years or so and it would have been n...

Re: Trump Leaving Office Poll (Part 2)

The rule of thumb for the American court system is that barring a Constitutional requirement to the contrary the motivating impulse behind everything is to allow the courts themselves to operate at maximum efficiency. Justice for litigants or defendants is desirable, but ultimately incidental, and a...

In the other cases, they do a preliminary hearing in front of a judge that otherwise works the same way. It's definitely more efficient than a grand jury.

Re: Trump Leaving Office Poll (Part 2)

As I understand it: It's somebody saying "A crime happened and I think this person did it." It's "charges" against someone if a prosecutor does it, and an "indictment" if a grand jury does it. You skip this phase and go straight to "arrest" if a police office...

Re: Final fucking fantasy 22 3/4

The villain this time around is extremely popular, and for very good reason. He's phenomenal. He first showed up in late Stormblood spouting the usual Ascian pomposities, but as we move into Shadowbringers , he demonstrates inventiveness . He's sympathetic . He is flawed in ways that are appropriat...

Re: The Democrats Will Also Shit Themselves.

In more positive news: Michigan poised to replace Iowa as early Democratic presidential state Good. I said after the clusterfuck of the 2020 primaries that maybe this would finally convince people to stop treating Iowa like it was important, but I didn't expect it to happen in such an immediate and...

Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

IMO, this will be seen as a precipitating event in a serious crack-up of the United States, not because of the contentiousness of the issue but because of the already full-throated commitment of some states to help the citizens of others break the law. It will be an actual crisis of federalism unles...

Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

So, I usually stay out of the politics talk but, I've heard that Lincoln just straight up told the Supreme Court to shove it . Couldn't everybody just agree to stop taking the Supreme Court seriously and ignore them? No, because the supreme court is not asserting authority here, but abrogating it. ...

1. The fact that the responding officers intercepted the shooter, got into a firefight, and fled I find it kinda hard to believe that the school heard an actual firefight and didn't immediately lock all the doors, so I think it's more likely that any extent of "engagement" by police was t...

Re: Rooty-tooty point and shootys

They're gonna do something this time. The common assumption is that nothing will be done, but I think we're hurtling toward a particularly stupid outcome that I'd been fretting about for a while. The Uvalde and Buffalo shootings had a particular feature in common which was quite inconvenient to the...
