Re: An Open Market on Economics

It was news to me that, under the original terms, the transaction fees weren't included in Patreon's 5% cut. I'd always just assumed that covered their overhead and profit both. Foolish me for not anticipating maximum greed.

Re: The... *Democrats* will eat themselves?

The core of the allegation is that Hillary forced a bankrupt Democratic Party into a not-technically-illegal but unprecedented funding agreement that gave her campaign effectively near-total control of the party machinery over a year before she was the nominee. Ah yes, this breaking Politico report...

Re: Books

Because the cost of printing is not most of the cost of a book. Hardbacks are actually about $3 to produce, paperbacks about $1; beyond that, as a rule of thumb, about half the price goes to the publisher for breakdown between the various parties involved (author, editor, copyeditor, the works) and ...

Funny you should ask. Tropical Storm Jose just this morning reached the sustained windspeed to merit a name of its own, and early projections have it at hurricane strength by the end of the week.

McCain diagnosed with brain cancer; survival rates for that form make it very unlikely he'll last out his term.

Brain cancer is very near the top of my personal list of horrifying ways to die. All else aside, I wish him the best.

Re: GOP Will Shit Itself

My wild speculation is that Jerry Moran is angling for a leadership position in the future. He's got one of the safest seats in the Senate (not up for reelection until '22, in Kansas ), he's already had a very successful stint running the National Republican Senatorial Committee that helped put seve...

I couldn't find any new GTX 570s anywhere, and I'd rather avoid buying used GPUs unless it's so cheap that I don't care if it turns out to be a total bust (like $20). New is not an option, the GTX 570 was released in 2010. It's not even remotely close to an RX460; the closest modern nVidia equivale...

Looks like Britain's headed for a minority government and a hung parliament. And - ooops - the news just broke that Labour is now more likely to be the winner than the Conservatives. Expect there to be a lot of votecount arguing! Can't say I'm seeing that; forecast I'm seeing at the moment is 322 f...

The WaPo kept a running list of cable news chyrons seen during the hearing. It will surprise absolutely none of you that HER EMAILS popped up on Fox, and only Fox, repeatedly.
