Re: World War Moink

Okay I'm in the final few missions. I'll say that the mid-game drags in a way I don't love. I also have not enjoyed fighting most of the "boss" characters in this game. That said, I still adore this cast of characters. It constantly reminds me why I like this series, and fairly often the a...

Re: DC Animation

Justice League vs The Fatal Five was real enjoyable. It's nothing mind-blowing, but it's got some great new characters done well. It's basically a lost, particularly good two-parter JLU episode. Ordered it sight unseen, because Timm says that the odds of us ever getting that JL reunion movie pretty...

Re: In the Land of Wonderful Dreams

Just had find my Prius' tires fucked up. Went into a place that was both clothing store and library. I was waiting for a punk guy with gauges and tattoos and such to try shirts in a cramped area, wanting to look at the shirt section. He kept checking each one with his girlfriend who was there. I am ...

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

I missed the original discussion about this back when BvS came out but man, the more I think about Batman branding criminals, the more fucked up it gets. Obviously the worst is that it "marks them for death" in the overstuffed prisons he's filled with supercriminals, but beyond that, whoev...

Re: (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ Animes

Yeah, looking back on it I think the lack of even the most paper-thin continuity rubbed the wrong way after Bebop. In other news, I watched the three Godzilla CG movies on Netflix - Planet of the Monsters, City on the Edge of Battle, Planet Eater - and they all uniformly suck maximum ass. Kinda just...

Re: The Star Trek Thread

I’ve been noticing the lens flares a lot more these past three episodes and they’re so fucking stupid it distracts the shit out of me. I stopped, rewound, and watched where the flare appeared the last few times it happened, and there’s no window or light or anything from which the flare could come f...

Re: The Star Trek Thread

They kinda handwave it at the end of Season 1. Anyways, the latest episode was actually encouragingly good - the one with the TOS callback to the Pike pilot. Feels like the writing and the direction was way better, somehow. Even got some good Tyler scenes. Hope we get more Michael and Pike like this .

Re: TV Series On The Television

The new Doom Patrol is wonderful. The most important thing is that it is batshit, embracing all the weirdness and far-flung meta concepts of the comic book, in the same way CW's Flash did when faced with the goofier parts of the comic book mythos. I cannot get over how much I love Robotman in this s...

Re: The Star Trek Thread

I agree that An Obol for Charon is the best episode since the time loop one. A big reason is that Saru got tons of screen time, and Reno was introduced to the crew. She seriously is this crucial missing piece to the engineering group. I can't believe it took this long for her to get brought in. Anyw...

Re: Books

Decided to get around to reading The Forever War by Joe Haldeman, since I’ve had the book for like over a decade, when an old roommate left it behind. Also looked intriguing. So it starts really good. It was written in 1974 by a guy that went through the Vietnam War, and the entire book is basically...

Re: The Star Trek Thread

Yeah I absolutely am not into this Section 31 shit for the exact reason that they're dredging up all these B-list characters whose arcs are fully resolved.

Like none of these people have any interesting motivation or desire, they're just like, doing the ol' 9 to 5, and it sucks.

Any time Jet Reno isn't on screen, all characters should be asking, "Where's Reno?"

Re: The Star Trek Thread

This latest one with Saru's homeworld was the most buck wild thing they've done in a long while. Just, show up, beam down with the one person guaranteed to piss the Ba'ul off, piss the Ba'ul off immediately, run away, leaving Saru's sister at their mercy, get Saru captured, deploy a SPECIES-ALTERING...

Re: (SPOILERS) Infinity War and Beyond (Marvel Thread)

I can't find where it was but whoever brought up the theory that the snap split the universe in two, with each group existing in a universe A and a doomed universe B... I love that idea. It'll absolutely never happen, but man, that would be great.

Re: and Dead Tree Comics

Man... Saga is still good, still consistently surprising and gorgeous and creative, it's just... it's got that comic book problem where the more you see of any character, the more certain it is something horrible will happen to them. Which it does, usually in as tragic a way as possible, until they'...

Also been picking up the new Venom run, which feels like it was made specifically for me: someone who read every single one of Venom's short-lived solo series back when he was a teenager, lost track of the character over the course of the following disparate one-shots (where his character fluctuate...

Holy shit! Never dared hope Amazon wouldn't get to install themselves tax-free.

Genuinely delighted.
