Re: Doom2: MyHouse.wad

The skill and passion in the classic Doom community is frankly unmatched.

One reason My House sticks out so much is that even by the incredibly high standards of the classic Doom community, it's several cuts above

Re: Doom2: MyHouse.wad

As it so happens I'm actually huge in to the classic Doom scene. Watching the thread explode on Doomworld in to what for classic Doom is a major mainstream crossover has been amazing. This thing is a work of art. The more you know about the engine, and Doom mapping tropes generally, the more amazin...

Re: Doom2: MyHouse.wad

No, it's really not. It is in modern 3D games, but even vanilla Doom can easily handle hundreds and hundreds of enemies on screen at the same time, and the way Doom works is it loads the entire level and everything in it on map load (there are some exceptions to this in advanced source ports such as...

Re: Doom2: MyHouse.wad

Mirrors are relatively easy on a technical level, but extremely arduous, and the implementation here is excessive. In a basic sense, mirrors are just displaying another room that is mirrored, this is the same trick used in the Build engine for things like the famous Duke3D mirror in it's first level.

Things got tight overnight, but I'm encouraged by how few Pima County votes have been counted.

Re: Brave Soul, Who Fears Not Death

Elden Ring is incredible. If anyone didn't already know, play Elden Ring if you've ever even looked at From Software's output with interest. Maybe you wanted to know what all the fuss was about but never got around to it. Well now is the time. This is by far the most accessible game yet due to the o...

Re: Doctor Who

I listened to the Scratchman audiobook. Extremely good stuff, Tom Baker did the reading and given that most of the text is first person narration from the 4th Doctor this works out extremely well. Definitely a favorite Doctor story from recent times, highly recommend

Re: Rooty-tooty point and shootys

I don't understand people trying to have a good faith argument about gun restrictions in the United States. I understand politicians having bad faith arguments about it, because it's like a perpetual motion machine for political capital, but the fact of the matter is that it's too late. The guns are...

Re: Rooty-tooty point and shootys

As Friday pointed out, mass shootings represent an absolutely tiny fraction of gun deaths in the US, as salacious as they are. If you really want to put a dent in gun violence, end the war on drugs, and then if that's not enough for you I would suggest extremely robust programs to prevent suicides. ...

Re: Our Boys In Blue

NYPD has been having a time of it, and I love it. Complaining that without marijuana charges they can't harass people for no reason. Complaining decriminalizing prostitution. Why, if it goes on like this there will barely be any use for cops at all, and then where will you be?! Pictured: Where we'll...
