Re: Let's play Dragon Warrior II: Warrior Hardier!

Huh, I didn't realize the mech enemies were around way back in II. Definitely have the foggiest memories of this one, but it's really impressive just how many staples got crammed in so early.

I feel like Why Should I Worry from Oliver and Company should probably be in there somewhere.

Re: Let's play Dragon Warrior II: Warrior Hardier!

Not to derail too hard, here (sorry), but this has inspired me to run through DQ3 again. I went for the SFC translated version to compare to my old/your upcoming NES experience but... I've already found a MAJOR problem and might have to restart on NES:

Re: Let's play Dragon Warrior II: Warrior Hardier!

I meant to mention it in the 1 playthrough, but I really like the world map fog-of-war you put up after new locations. I'd imagine it's even neater for people who haven't played the game.

Re: Let's play Dragon Warrior!

Dragon Warrior is not a perfect game by any means, but its ideas and the execution of these ideas set the foundation for an entire genre, its myriad successors either iterating and building on its systems and adding notions of their own, or sometimes merely being cargo-cult imitators with only the ...

Re: Let's play Dragon Warrior!

They should really have put an NPC somewhere with the information about Erdrick's Armor's swamp resistance instead of expecting you to notice as you leave Hauksness so the player knows there's a way to not hate getting the Token. Kind of a weird oversight in a game that otherwise is really good abou...

Re: Let's play Dragon Warrior!

Playing Torches and Radiant against each other in a resource management dungeon crawl is pretty great, especially the feeling when they start to wear out and the illumination constricts. I've always preferred DQ's attrition to FF and most others' full resources to fight the boss choice though abando...

Re: Unforgivable Sins of UI Design

My new favorite work error that I get a couple times a week:
"The contents of fields in 0 record(s) were deleted, and 0 record(s) were lost due to key violations.
Do you want to proceed anyway?"

Re: Randomization

It'd be kind of nice to have a local version of the randomizer, too. I tried it one more time this morning and had a supremely boring one (Cecil, Kain, Edge, Rosa, Fusoya. Crystal and Dark Crystal by I think 36m, with Adamant Armor available in a shop and an early Crystal Sword, so a dupe and some G...

Re: Randomization

I've played this 5 minutes and it's pretty delightful. Started with Porom/Kain and the TwinHarp, was feeling pretty good after picking up a Flame Spear, Shield, and Glass Helmet in Baron and then the hypnotized Yang fight was Odin. ... Tellah in the place of Edward for Damcyan makes me glad cutscene...

Re: Rooty-tooty point and shootys

People are already disallowed from purchasing guns if they're ever involuntarily committed or if the court declares them incompetent, and mental health professionals by-and-large are already required to report patients who they believe are a danger to harm others (44 states, mostly mandatory, others...

Re: Rooty-tooty point and shootys

The allowing police more access to mental health records by loosening privacy controls is super fucking shitty, but also pretty understandable in a world when both political parties try to scapegoat mental illness as a major reason for mass shooting to avoid confronting that it's just angry white men.

If you've got an Intel chip, be sure to update as soon as possible, a huge bug lets regular programs access kernel memory space.
