Re: Obscure Old Games

I somehow stumbled across this while searching for information on Mr. A comics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3mR_a7nbiE I have never played this game and was unaware there was an Usagi Yojimbo game until approximately 90 seconds ago. However, per Wikipedia , it was well-received upon its release...

Re: Free and Cheap Comics

Comixology sales for Comic-Con week. I bought Witzend , Wally Wood's seminal anthology of creator-owned comics by a murderer's row of the best American comics artists of the 1960s, which may be best known as the series where Mr. A first appeared. Witzend was collected in its entirety a few years ag...

Yeah, I guess I can see it as some kind of A/B testing thing. Or a local file to fall back on in case the scraper stops working (gets IP-blocked by the website it's scraping or whatever).

Re: War. War never changes. (Except when it does)

The Emoji Movie showed up on my Netflix homepage under "Imaginative Movies" the other day.

Which was kind of like how Blockbuster used to shelve 2001 in the "Action" section.

Re: Justice

That's, uh...hm. Actually kinda feels like a decent argument for civil asset forfeiture, at first glance. It seems pretty fundamentally different when the property being confiscated and charged with a crime is 30 abused animals. As far as an actual legal distinction, though, I'm not sure the rationa...

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

...you know what, I take it back. Actually I think the best Mr. A story is the one with the ex-con who goes straight. It's the only Mr. A story that has even the slightest bit of complexity to its morality. (Basically, the moral of that one is that the scales can be balanced and redemption is possib...

From: Trending News Subject: Shocking News: Megyn Kelly has abruptly exited Fox News! I'm...honestly kind of curious how that even works. If you're scraping headlines to try and get somebody to open an e-mail with "shocking news" in it, shouldn't it be, like...trivially simple to write a ...

Re: Obscure Old Games

Back in this era, the slick hotness every PC gamer RPG fan was playing was Baldur's Gate or maybe Icewind Dale. Torment is built using the same engine, but it doesn't resemble those games in any other way. I bought the D&D Anthology (the Baldur'ses, the Icewinds, Torment, and evidently somethin...

I need to stop reading the [...] comments section. I feel like it'd be worth starting a new thread to discuss why online discourse sucks so badly now. I think, as much as anything, it's that the need for skilled, active moderation increases dramatically as the size of the community does, but large ...

Apparently the sequence everyone is talking about is the one where he convinces a bunch of NRA members and congresscritters to support a law mandating the arming of toddlers. And with good reason. I can confirm that that segment was excellent, and makes a good case for the show (and for waiting unt...

Re: TV Series On The Television

Any framing of this show that doesn't center on his predatory history is an invalid one. ...there is a guy in the Ars Technica comments section right now who is arguing that Joss Whedon's behavior isn't anti-feminist, because if he were gay he would treat men just as badly as he treats women. I nee...

I feel like I should put my SD2SNES to work and try Terranigma. (I started Soul Blazer and liked it okay but quit because I found the bosses to be too much of a slog. Never played Illusion of Gaia.) But the SNES is in my office and I'm doing most of my gaming in my living room lately. Mostly because...

Re: TV Series On The Television

I'm only 10 minutes or so into Who Is America? but so far yep, it sure is a Sacha Baron Cohen show. Baron Cohen's work is hit-or-miss because the reactions of his interviewees are out of his control. In his first segment, he plays an Alex Jones type and talks to Bernie Sanders. And I get opening wit...

Certainly. Even assuming the "we're doing it to call attention to the problem" line is sincere and not an ass-pull defense of a bad idea, it's not as if the Game Show Network is known for its sophisticated social commentary. Even if the show's being made with the best of intentions, it's a...

Maybe there's something about the nomination process that I don't understand, but even if Kavanaugh doesn't work out, I'm not seeing it making a lot of difference either way. I mean, as much as I'd like to rejoice over anyone connected to this administration stepping down or getting fired or not ge...
