Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?

I'm sympathetic but, I think, a lot more deeply cynical than I used to be. I'm glad there are people calling for impeachment. I like to think that if I were in office, I'd be one of them. But it's not just the lack of Senate votes; it's the lack of public support. There's some preliminary evidence t...

Re: and Dead Tree Comics

Outer Darkness by John Layman and Afu Chan is good shit. It's space opera/horror; Layman cites Alien and Event Horizon as influences. Another good description is "Star Trek, but the ship is powered by a chained demon controlled by necromancers, and everyone is a complete bastard." The firs...

I don't know if "20th anniversary of Columbine" is a thing that's getting much attention up there, but I can see that being enough to harsh people's mellow.

Re: CHAT DUMP (and Quotes)

I've always thought that making fun of "enhance" on cop shows was perfectly fair game but making fun of it in Blade Runner wasn't, because if you've got AI so sophisticated that it can pass for human unless you ask it a series of questions about cruelty to animals, of course you've already...

Re: IT IS THE YEAR 2005

Working my way through the Transformers comics I got in the last bundle that I haven't read yet. I've already read vol 5: Chaos Theory, but I skimmed through it again, and god damn if the very first Roberts/Milne issue (the "backdoor pilot" for More than Meets the Eye) doesn't answer a que...

Re: DC Animation

My copy came today. I quite liked it! While it's nice having the Big Three back, this is really a story about Jessica Cruz (who has PTSD) and Starboy (who's schizophrenic). I thought this was a rather nice approach, as the superhero genre has some real problems with its portrayal of mental illness, ...

Re: The Circle of Jerks Ride Again!

CoH was before my time, but if it was anything like the Champions character designer only with a game attached this is super interesting news. Sucks to be any of the teams working on spiritual successors, I guess? Not any more than unofficial servers for Mario Kart Wii are bad news for Mario Kart 8...

...man, don't do that; that's the sort of thing that could quite plausibly actually happen.

Actual headline is "Scorpion jeopardizes Arizona senator's milking thumb ahead of cow milking competition".

Re: Our Boys In Blue

Yeah I can't speak to police cars but I *have* spent a considerable amount of time in parked minivans with the AC blasting when it was 105 out, and my anecdotal experience is that they weren't subject to any more engine trouble than the next vehicle.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?

Couple of highlights of what I've seen so far: Junior's meeting in Trump Tower doesn't count as colluding with Russia because he's too stupid to have known it was illegal. Put less glibly: conspiracy requires intent. While the "ignorance of the law is no excuse" canard applies in many circ...

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?

The redacted report is out. Barr held a press conference to spin it before releasing it; he actually used the phrase "no collusion" and offered up the legal theory that (1) there can be no obstruction if there's no underlying crime and (2) all the shit Trump did wasn't obstruction; he was ...

Re: Game musings and news

Okay finally got a chance to watch the video and yeah, the extra "Street Fighter 2 Turbo" on the list before is actually Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo. And also it's got a USB port, and a different port labeled "power", so yeah that certainly suggests you'll either be able to use ...

Re: Game musings and news

I'm seeing on Retronauts that it's got Sanwa parts, so yeah, that explains the cost. If there's a way to hook it up to a PC or console and play games other than the internal ones on it, then that's actually a pretty good deal. Obviously still very much a niche product, but that would at least give i...

Longread at Weird: 15 Months of Fresh Hell Inside Facebook

The intro is a little flowery, but the article is extensively researched (apparently they interviewed 65 people).

Wait, this isn't Weird.

Why, there's no magazine called Weird, is there?

Can't speak to that with any certainty (it's the first I'm even hearing about Geoffrey having a mustache), but by the time I quit reading Sonic, Ken wasn't really driving the art direction, Pat Spaziante was. I know there were a lot of character redesigns around the release of Sonic Adventure; the c...

Re: HOW WAS YOUR DAY

"Guild, *what did you do* while I was away pissing in the backyard because I am bad at plumbing?" seems like a pretty rich metaphor to mine.
