Re: The Star Trek Thread

I liked the Lorca reveal. It was the only reveal that really worked for me of the various reveals in the back half of the season. It's been clear from the get-go that our crew was working for the bad guy and would eventually have to reckon with that, but I assumed he was just regular-evil, not Mirro...

Re: Hot game deals

Shen's GIft or whatever it's called is also supposed to be quite good. I poked around the links a bit and figured out that the Reinforcement Pack includes Anarchy's Children, Alien Hunters, and Shen's Last Gift. (Which would explain why it's on sale and none of those individual DLC packs are.) The ...

Steam sale time again.

I haven't played XCOM 2 yet. Should I get the expansion or any of the DLC before I do?

Re: and Dead Tree Comics

Waid and Samnee's Captain America continues to be delightful, and overtly political. In the latest issue, Cap is frozen in ice again and wakes up in a dystopian future where America has been taken over by a white supremacist supervillain named King Baby. The year is 2025. It's nice to see that Marve...

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes

No Scooter, either, now that I think about it. Wonder what that's about. There was a Muppets comic some years back (when they were still running them at Boom) where Skeeter was the main character but, inexplicably, nobody would say her name; Scooter called her "Sis" and everyone else calle...

I stand corrected; thanks.

I really should watch that Jonathan Ross documentary again.

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

I finally got around to watching If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast , Carl Reiner's documentary about 90-something folks who are still active (mostly, but not exclusively, entertainers). It was fine but pretty slight; it's a lot more rewarding to just listen to interviews with the folks featur...

GOG's got a sale on, including some flash deals and free King of Fighters '02 (which I've read is just the arcade ROM with an emulator).

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

The Disaster Artist begins with a bunch of celebrities talking about The Room's surprising longevity and cult following. One of them (IIRC it's Adam Scott, one of a couple of The Good Place stars who appear in the sequence) says something along the lines of "It's a movie that people remember , ...

Re: Hey [%target] Whatcha Playin'?

Mad Max's ending is a downer, even by Mad Max standards. Think the original film more than Fury Road. Ultimately I enjoyed it a lot. Suffers from a lot of the problems that open-world games do: samey missions in samey environments, collecting samey geegaws. For all that, it's mostly pretty fun, and ...

Not phrasing it as "There's nothing in the rulebook that says a dog can't be governor" is possibly the biggest missed opportunity I've ever seen.

Attack of the Earthlings is reverse XCOM (you play as the aliens). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9gzcVb3nBc Gaming on Linux says it's good but short and easy. I don't see buying it right now (since I still haven't finished my Enemy Within run of XCOM or started XCOM 2), but for those interested, ...

Re: GOP Will Shit Itself

McCain is probably my favorite (washington) GOP guy Assuming you don't mean "guy" in a gendered sense, I think I gotta go with Collins at this point. Unless we're talking about surveillance, in which case, man, I hate Rand Paul, but he's consistently on the right side of that issue. The m...

Re: GOP Will Shit Itself

W was certainly a step on the road we're on (and I fucking hate this trend of liberals deciding that the mass-murdering torturer wasn't so bad after all), but his nomination was qualitatively different from Trump's. First, W had an advantage over McCain in name recognition. That counts for a lot. (T...

I wasn't on the "Schumer blew it" train when he made the deal to end the shutdown.

I am now.

Pelosi, meanwhile, has been speaking before the House on the need to pass DACA for eight hours so far. It's a futile gesture, but by God at least ONE Democratic leader is willing to do it.
