Re: The Antisocial Network

Yeah, the open moderation stack is what caught my eye in the Masnick article I linked. That's at least potentially a big goddamn deal. I'm still concerned about the centralization (open APIs are all well and good but having to trust a single for-profit company not to turn them off isn't, even if it ...

Re: X-Men

Yeah, I was thinking much the same. TOS was originally going to end by setting up Generation X, back when season 4 was planned as the final season. Mostly because X-Cutioner's Song and Generation X are probably the last remaining 90s stories that haven't been used. The last two Big Event stories, ma...

Re: Batman (created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane)

We've got screencaps from Batman: Caped Crusader , including some very '40s-style images of Batman and Catwoman, a redesigned Harley Quinn, and Scarecrow looking a lot like he did on New Batman Adventures. (Or, based on the text, Clayface looking a lot like Scarecrow did on New Batman Adventures? Ok...

Re: X-Men

You know, it's kind of impressive how seamlessly the old "slot Rogue in for Colossus" move works. omg I just realized that after 5 seasons of retelling stories from the '70s and '80s with Gambit in place of Nightcrawler, now they're retelling a story from the '90s with Nightcrawler in...

Re: Hey [%target] Whatcha Playin'?

Went ahead and snagged Hi-Fi Rush in that Humble Choice bundle and I'm only about half an hour in but it is a gorgeous game with a soundtrack that rocks and I was already mad about the studio being shut down on principle but now I'm also mad because they made something genuinely great.

Re: General Old Game Hardware Thread

Boy I wish I'd known about threeSD before I manually extracted all my games and saves from my 2DS and copied them to my new 3DS XL! ...which I thought was a capital-N New 3DS XL when I bought it, so that kinda smarts. But oh well, it's not like I was going to play Xenoblade on it or anything anyway.

I guess I'm a little surprised they're doing Fatal Attractions again, but not that surprised. You know, it's kind of impressive how seamlessly the old "slot Rogue in for Colossus" move works. Nice job with everybody getting an alternate costume. Good meta jokes: "Morph wa...

Re: Bogus, batshit, banal, bizarre, or bicubic: Assorted News

Not going to link to the New York Times, but it turns out that in RFK Jr's case, "brainworms" is not a figure of speech. The dude literally had part of his brain eaten by a parasite. And in case that wasn't on-the-nose enough, apparently the "thimerosol causes autism" guy also ha...

Re: Trump Leaving Office Poll (Part 2)

Can't say I'm surprised -- not just because Cannon gonna Cannon, but because of SCOTUS slow-walking the immunity ruling. As for the Georgia case, AIUI Georgia RICO prosecutions can take a very long time. It's never great to hear about another delay, but I think that one was looking at a pretty long ...

Re: Hot game deals

May's Humble Choice has Hi-Fi Rush and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, among others. I'm thinking I'll grab it; I've been wanting to check out Hi-Fi Rush and $12 would be an all-time low price for that game alone. (Y:LaD is a Steam code; the Steam version inexplicably still has Denuvo even though the game's ...

I heard a couple of months back that Threads was joining the Fediverse but didn't actually see anything from Threads in my Mastodon feed until the past couple of days. Nothing bad; it was some posts by Aaron Rupar that somebody was boosting. There's a debate going right now about whether or not Mast...

Re: Trump Leaving Office Poll (Part 2)

I'll believe it when I see it, and Merchan's pretty clear that he'd really rather not, but it's more direct and blunt than any of the other judges have been up to this point. I think Merchan's made the very reasonable judgement that stochastic terrorism against jurors is a red line and he can't let ...

One time we threw a stick in a lake for the dog to swim after and he came back with a big ol' log.

(Not Artie; this was a different dog probably ~20-25 years ago. Artie doesn't swim.)

Re: General Old Game Hardware Thread

Went ahead and pre-ordered the Evercade VS-R; should be getting it in August. Lord knows I've got plenty of different ways to play old games already, but I appreciate their dedication to the niche/obscure/forgotten stuff. Again, they remade Duke Nukem 1&2 from the ground up, and you can't get th...

Transformers #7 introduces a new artist, Jorge Corona. Daniel Warren Johnson (who's still writing) is a tough act to follow but gives Corona exactly what he needs to earn a warm welcome: a lengthy sequence of Soundwave kicking the everloving shit out of Starscream. You know Johnson knows Transformer...

Still deciding if "No, my friend. Nine" was a German joke I don't see how there can be any doubt. Morph has turned into not just Magik but also Darkchilde and Colossus in his X-Men costume specifically, which afaik never happened in the original run. No, he just wore a tank top in the '92...

Re: Friday's Favorite 100 Longform Video Media

Rather than talk about Transformers directly, at this point I'll just add a link to Ron Friedman's GoFundMe. He wrote a lot of the series, most significantly the movie, and now he and his wife are dealing with serious medical problems and the financial ruination that comes with them.
