Re: XCom: Flooding the Market with Dead Poisonlizard Salarymen

Yeah, that makes sense; the way the difficulty scales leaves me feeling like I'm always on my back foot, no matter how much I level up. (Especially if I level up and put resources into, say, building up the base instead of upgrading my equipment.) Still haven't played XCOM 2; I conked out on Enemy W...

Re: Game musings and news

Analogue is making a Genesis clone ; 8bitdo is making wireless controllers for it. Sounds like they've got the audio figured out and everything. Also sounds like it's just going to be cartridge-based, with no official support for playing ROMs off an SD card. On the one hand, that's kind of expected...

Re: TV Series On The Television

The first episode of The Conners was good. It took a little bit to get warmed up, but it had some good laughs, and the way Roseanne's been written out of the show is timely and emotionally resonant. Turns out she had a secret opioid addiction and died of an overdose; the emotional core of the episod...

Re: "Unrest In the Middle East" - a valid headline for over 2000 years.

Whether MBS actually faces any repercussions whatsoever for this is still very much an open question. We're talking about a country that faced no consequences for 9/11.

My guess? Global industry largely boycotts Davos in the Desert, waits a couple news cycles, then resumes business as usual.

Re: Little Pig, Little Pig! Let Me Admin! (Security Thread)

OK, yeah, I'll buy that. I think networked printers are here to stay, but a lot of consumers DO seem to be getting more wary about the IoT, and that's a win.

That said, MS's update tactics over the past few years are similarly dangerous.

Re: Little Pig, Little Pig! Let Me Admin! (Security Thread)

It would be if the result was going to be "learn more about security and make sure you handle it personally, or get somebody who knows how to help you." You know that's not going to be the result. The result is going to be that end users refuse any updates they're given a chance to refuse,...

Re: Little Pig, Little Pig! Let Me Admin! (Security Thread)

Epson follows HP's lead, pushes "security update" that disables third-party ink cartridges. I've already been over what a catastrophically bad idea this is, when HP did it. And I'm not even talking about the DRM. My opinion on whether or not it is okay for a vendor to restrict the way in ...

I looked over the judicial nominees and here's what I came up with. (I already shared a couple of these links earlier, but again, I'm sharing these notes with a few different people, so some straight links and some redundant links will be included.) Judicial review scores are available at https://ww...

Re: GOP Will Shit Itself

Well, we've already got plenty of the former - I'd say we've averaged one news story per day for the last week about violence at a protest/"protest". Today alone, there's something like three or four different stories out of Portland, including a cop joining the "Proud Boys" in ...

The Good: Battles are, with the exception of at sea and bosses, entirely avoidable! Every monster shows up and can be simply walked around! (Though they will chase you, you are faster.) If you're higher level they actually run away from you after spotting you instead of chasing you! They got rid of...

Well, someone could still pull a John McCain, but I'm not hopeful. Tweet sternly about how it's a bad idea and vote for it anyway? lul Anyway, I saw the post above before I saw the news about Murkowski rolling over, so yeah. Murkowski was the sole "nay" on the Republican side. You're thin...

Here are my notes on the ballot props (so far; I'm open to changing my mind if I learn anything different in the coming weeks). I still need to look at judges and nonpartisan candidates. (Pardon the straight links, but they're to make it easier to copy and paste this into e-mails and other things th...

The line in this week's episode about "It fried their circuits. We've got a few minutes before they reboot" sure could have used another pass.

Maybe at least two of Flake/Collins/Murkowski vote against him. We'd need all three of them. Or two of them and Manchin. I don't expect any Democrat to be the deciding vote. Not even Manchin. I'm not saying he won't vote to confirm. But I don't think he'll vote to confirm unless every Republican do...

Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars show will be called The Mandalorian - Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Taika Waititi will also direct episodes of the series

I like the sound of that.

Though I think it means we probably won't be getting that Mangold Boba Fett movie after all.
