Re: General Old Game Hardware Thread
Anybody have any recommendations for a grip for a 3DSXL? I'm not finding it comfortable to play for very long, and most of the grips I've looked at cover the microSD slot (not a deal-breaker; I've got an FTP server app installed so I can always copy stuff wirelessly if need be) and the stylus (somew...

Re: Animotion and Car Tunes
Made it to the second season of Fantastic Four. I've always heard the second season is an improvement over the first, and the first episode sure reinforces that claim. * Better animation. I won't go as far as "good", but it's reached "adequate". * The best writing of any episode ...

You know what? It's nice to have one-episode-a-season Moffat back.

Re: The Star Trek Thread
⋅ I think this may be the most cartoonish villain Star Trek has ever seen. He is the mentor of La'k, and respected him enough to raise him to be the next Primarch, but then when La'k wanted to date a human he marked him for death, sent the entire Breen armada after him, and once he succe...

Pretty brobdingnagian Hellboy bundle on. It looks to include all 12 volumes of the main series, both volumes of Hellboy in Hell, and a pretty decent (but not complete) selection of the spinoffs. The BPRD bundle still doesn't get us to everything but it's a hell of a lot. And if you missed the Hellb...

Manjaro updated to KDE Plasma 6. I also switched from X to Wayland, so I'm not 100% on which changes are different in the new version of KDE and which are due to how it interacts with a different display stack. But anyway, initial thoughts: It's snappier. It still does things like occasionally hang ...

Re: Unforgivable Sins of UI Design
I was momentarily baffled as to why in fuck's name you can't drag an icon from the "Recommended" section of the Start menu to the desktop, but on further reflection that has to be a bug, not an intentional decision, right? You can drag from the "Pinned" section and from All Apps.

Of course you can't update the firmware on an Xbox controller without connecting to a Microsoft account. Of course you can't.

If I make a joke about handing the forums over to Norondor, is that a fun nostalgic reference yet, or is it just going to be shouting again?

The level of pedantic detail in this fucking gem.
If T'Chaka is still Black Panther, then that puts us somewhere before "Prey of the Black Panther", which aired in November 1995.

José P. Zagal and Benj Edwards' Seeing Red: Nintendo's Virtual Boy is out and looks to be an interesting history. It's open access and you can get the whole thing as a free PDF on the MIT Press website if you're so inclined, though I'll be keeping an eye out for when I can buy a physical copy at my ...

So how'd we do? Onslaught? Well, things went a little differently this time, but I'd still be very surprised if it didn't happen. Joseph? Well, we don't have the setup for it at this point but it could still happen later. Outback Era? I would have sworn that was where we were headed when...

Company sells "Fuck the LAPD" T-shirts. LAPDF's attorneys send vexatious takedown demand. Company's attorneys send response letter consisting entirely of "LOL, no." And then follow it up with a more detailed letter which concludes, The LAPD is not expected to like the existence o...

Masnick: Bluesky Is Building The Decentralized Social Media Jack Dorsey Wants, Even If He Doesn’t Realize It I think he makes a convincing argument that what's put Dorsey off is that Bluesky's built both the protocol stack and the reference implementation, which was not the original plan but became ...

Yeah, even if his mentees included just one of Coppola, Scorsese, Bogdanovich, or Cameron, he'd have a legitimate claim to changing cinema.

Wow, that didn't register with anyone? The opposite: I've got a lot of thoughts about Corman and haven't had time to put them all together. There have been a lot of people who have done the same kinds of things Corman did, but nobody did it as well as he did. He had an incredible eye for talent, an...

I think Cyclops needs to work on his strategizing a little bit. When dividing up the team to fight Magneto and Mr. Sinister, maybe consider where to send the guy whose bones are made of metal and the only person who can actually harm Mr. Sinister IIRC Wolverine losing his adamantium was the result ...

⋅ Lighting and sets are looking a lot better than they did in season 1. It’s amazing how SNW got something so basic so right, right out the gate. I mean TBF saying "right out the gate" kinda omits the Discovery episodes they got to use as a trial balloon. I read somewhere that t...

I guess that makes sense in isolation but I'd probably use a phrase like "currently running" instead of a word that, in this context, is typically used to mean the opposite of a miniseries.
