Re: Our Boys In Blue

Yeah I can't speak to police cars but I *have* spent a considerable amount of time in parked minivans with the AC blasting when it was 105 out, and my anecdotal experience is that they weren't subject to any more engine trouble than the next vehicle.

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?

Couple of highlights of what I've seen so far: Junior's meeting in Trump Tower doesn't count as colluding with Russia because he's too stupid to have known it was illegal. Put less glibly: conspiracy requires intent. While the "ignorance of the law is no excuse" canard applies in many circ...

Re: Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?

The redacted report is out. Barr held a press conference to spin it before releasing it; he actually used the phrase "no collusion" and offered up the legal theory that (1) there can be no obstruction if there's no underlying crime and (2) all the shit Trump did wasn't obstruction; he was ...

Re: Game musings and news

Okay finally got a chance to watch the video and yeah, the extra "Street Fighter 2 Turbo" on the list before is actually Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo. And also it's got a USB port, and a different port labeled "power", so yeah that certainly suggests you'll either be able to use ...

Re: Game musings and news

I'm seeing on Retronauts that it's got Sanwa parts, so yeah, that explains the cost. If there's a way to hook it up to a PC or console and play games other than the internal ones on it, then that's actually a pretty good deal. Obviously still very much a niche product, but that would at least give i...

Longread at Weird: 15 Months of Fresh Hell Inside Facebook

The intro is a little flowery, but the article is extensively researched (apparently they interviewed 65 people).

Wait, this isn't Weird.

Why, there's no magazine called Weird, is there?

Re: Sonic

Can't speak to that with any certainty (it's the first I'm even hearing about Geoffrey having a mustache), but by the time I quit reading Sonic, Ken wasn't really driving the art direction, Pat Spaziante was. I know there were a lot of character redesigns around the release of Sonic Adventure; the c...

"Guild, *what did you do* while I was away pissing in the backyard because I am bad at plumbing?" seems like a pretty rich metaphor to mine.

Re: Sonic

While Penders is one of Sinjin's creators, Art Mawhinney drew him in his first appearance. Penders is an artist so it's entirely possible he drew up some initial sketches of Geoffrey for Mawhinney to use as reference; that's quite common in comics, particularly where the writer is also an artist. Bu...

Today it is some sort of tiny ungulate. Possibly a pudu, or a baby antelope. I thought it was a puppy at first.

Tried to install bidet in hall bathroom. Put the whole thing together. Turned water back on. The assembly leaks where it connects to the toilet and where it connects to pipe. Shut off water. Discover I have failed to put washer in piece that connects to toilet. Attempt to remove. This is harder than...

This could be promising. Looks like Tomb Raider-style gameplay?

But...eh. EA. They've promised no microtransactions or loot boxes, so that's a start, but...it's still EA.

And Tapper's certainly no fan of Trump. The vibe I get from people like him is one I've talked about before: a journalist perceives an obligation toward objectivity, and completely misunderstands what objectivity is , mistaking it for "let's hear the perspective from someone who says it's raini...

It's like an episode of The Twilight Zone. Main character wakes up in a world where something fucking crazy is happening, and everybody else is acting like it's normal, and when he starts to freak out they treat him like he's the crazy one. In the best episodes of The Twilight Zone, the disturbing t...

So just doubling down on all the stuff I don't like, I guess. Okay then.

(But I guess as long as we're resigning ourselves to making this nothing more than nostalgia porn, at least we're getting Lando out of it.)
