Re: and Dead Tree Comics

I finally got a chance to read Captain America #695 (the first Waid/Samnee issue). I quite enjoyed it. There's one bit I didn't like -- a retcon stating that Cap was forgotten after he disappeared, that by the time he was found in the ice (which, due to Marvel's sliding timescale where it's always 1...

Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

You know, part of why I tried to change the subject is that I think everybody's made their positions perfectly clear, and I don't see any positive outcome from continuing to state and restate them.

But if that's what you guys want to do, knock yourselves out. I'm going to lunch.

Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

(replying to Brent, didn't see new posts.) I think you're conflating two different things. Which, to be fair, is what the Clinton impeachment was all about: pivoting from an investigation of sexual harassment allegations by Paula Jones to impeachment over a consensual relationship with Monica Lewins...

Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

It's been refreshing to see this long overdue reassessment of Bill Clinton. The guy was a sexual predator and Democrats circled the wagons for political reasons. That's fucked up, and it's good to see people ACKNOWLEDGE that it was fucked up. Which isn't to defend the impeachment. The facts of that ...

Re: TV Series On The Television

Given the announcement that it's set between Hobbit and LotR, I'm thinking that probably means Silmarillion is still off-limits. But there's still plenty of stuff in that timeframe to play with. Young Aragorn's years in Rohan and Gondor (under the assumed name Thorongil) seems like there's a lot of ...

Yes, he absolutely should resign. This is disgusting. He admits to it, even. I'm seeing a push for Ellison to take his seat, which I'd support. The neolib take on the subject is ... unsurprising. 931219016609357824 To be fair, it's harder to condemn the naked politicking when we're actually PAST th...

Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

Al Franken stuck his tongue in a model's mouth without her consent, and groped her while she was sleeping. And had a picture taken of him groping her. (Warning: link has auto-play audio. Plus, everything else that's fucking horrible about it.) This is heartbreaking. I really thought he was one of t...

Re: The Star Trek Thread

Oh, and my theory on L'Rell is that she was in love with Vok before he agreed to go through the procedure to change him into a human. wait what? ...anyway, star of Rent says he's going to go see La Boheme. I don't know why I wasn't expecting musical theater nerd jokes in Star Trek, but I wasn't.

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

Thor 2 committed the sin of being both really dark and really boring at the same time, which always makes whatever is doing that into this bland, boring, overly serious grey blob that nobody can fully remember within a month of experiencing it. (It had a few good moments, though.) And yeah, loved s...

Re: Computerus

Again, you might want to install the ESR. It'll continue to get security updates but won't prompt you to upgrade to a non-ESR version. The differences between v52 and 56 are mostly superficial. In the old days, they would have been minor version bumps; Chrome kind of fucked up browser versioning for...

Re: GOP Will Shit Itself

So are nazis, and yet here we are.

Could be that Mitch suspects that the party's long-term prospects aren't so good if people come to see it as the party of nazis AND child molesters.

Re: Computerus

Back to ESR for now. Won't plan on updating on my desktop or laptop at home (because I use NoScript on both). Might try on the HTPC. Not seeing anyone else reporting my issue yet. I'll keep an eye out; it's still a brand new release. Tried rebooting, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried deleti...

Re: Computerus

And when I try to autoscroll. Super.

Going to try rebooting. If that doesn't fix, I guess it's back to the ESR version. (That's v52. You probably don't want to stick with 56, because it won't be getting any more security updates.)

Re: Computerus

Yeah, the NoScript site still says the new version will be ready by the time 57 comes out, but nope!

Mobile version seems OK.

Desktop version locks up every single time I try to open the menu. Seriously. (Win7, at work.)

Re: Computerus

Apparently the new Firefox is out. The one that deprecates the old extensions API. So, y'know, careful with upgrading. I haven't tried it out yet; I'll install it at work first and see how much shit it breaks. I hear most extensions have already been released in the new format (and I think Chrome ex...

Re: Let's all go to the movies~

I never saw Thor 2 but I feel like Thor 3 finally gets it right. I like how the Thor movies have always been the ones most willing to go full Kirby in their aesthetics, and Thor 3 cranked that up a notch with the cosmic stuff. There are Kirby ships and Kirby tanks. (Stan Goldberg deserves a mention ...

Re: Re: Barefoot and Pregnant

Oh hey, remember this from 2015 (back on page 1)? Another prominent publisher is attempting to woo young readers, especially young girls, even as it employs an editor who has a history of being accused of sexual harassment. She doesn't provide any other information on what publisher or editor she's ...
