Re: Fucking Cell Phones
I've been using a Google Pixel for years and I'm pretty happy with it. Mine's a 3a (don't buy one of those, they're not supported anymore and I keep mine updated by using a CFW); the latest equivalent would be a 7a. I got my 3a for $245 used on eBay back in 2020, and the only (non-planned obsolescen...

Re: The Star Trek Thread
Yeah, not much to add to that except that I was like "Holy shit, the season arc is that episode where Picard blew up the ancient lab so the Romulans wouldn't find it?" and then I looked it up and nope, it wasn't even the one-off, never-acknowledged-again episode about a mysterious ancient ...

In TurboTax, when you try to submit a donation credit for Arizona, instead of submitting it displays bold red text at the bottom of the form telling you to check that you entered the correct code for the organization you donated to. It is not a validation error. It is not an error message at all. No...

Still can't get the Saturn core to work. Other folks are having better luck with the newer RAM module, but the core's still under development so I'm in "try again later and stick with emulation in the meantime" mode for now.

Returning VA this week: Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler
The rest of the characters we saw for the first time since TOS were recast. Interestingly, we've got another original cast member playing a new role: Chris Potter, who played Gambit in TOS, as Cable.
Oh, and some stuff happened I guess.

Mark Bright , an artist who worked on a whole lot of comics back in the '80s and '90s, including Power Man and Iron Fist, and co-created Icon (with Dwayne McDuffie) and Quantum and Woody (with Christopher Priest). He hadn't done a lot of comics work in the past couple of decades, but Q&W remain...

Meanwhile, Nintendo finally shut down online services for the Wii U and 3DS today, so you may want to check out Pretendo.

Super Mario 64 Land locks it up too. Real ROMs (and minor ROMhacks like the D-pad controls for Yoshi's Story) seem to be working okay. I haven't played a real N64 in a very long time so I probably wouldn't notice minor differences, but Mario Kart seemed fine. I noticed one moment where the attract m...

The N64 core's made it into mainline MiSTer. I haven't messed with it much yet but it seemed to work on a few different games I threw at it. The Super Mario 64 Last Impact romhack locked it up but I'm not sure if that one runs on real hardware either. AIUI there's some show-stopping bug that's preve...

The Comics Journal: “I've Rediscovered A Mode Of Expression That Was Important To Me As A Kid”: A Talk with Jordan Mechner Replay came out a few weeks ago. It's a graphic memoir that Mechner wrote, drew, colored, and lettered himself, and it traces the lives of his grandfather Adolph, his father Fra...

Abortion in Arizona set to be illegal in nearly all circumstances, state high court rules This isn't surprising but it's pretty fucking dispiriting. The good news is that I don't think it'll last the year; I believe this all but guarantees that the abortion access amendment will make it onto the No...

Yeah, I picked white supremacy as an obvious example but any supremacy will do, any desire to dominate some other group as lesser.

Apparently they're changing Wolverine's creator credit to include editor Roy Thomas, and what do you know, this is the first time I've ever heard of someone being added to a creator credit and not been happy about it. WTF, Roy? I guess for a guy who made a career of following in Stan Lee's footsteps...

Even as my opinion of evangelical Christians is at an all-time low (and it wasn't high to begin with), I'm less inclined than ever to think that religion is really the problem. Over on the other side of the Atlantic you've got intellectual atheists pushing much the same kind of bigotry that anti-int...

I don't know if Star Fox is actually the most technically impressive game, spec wise, on the SNES. I don't care. It feels like a fucking N64 game. Well, a N64 game with framerate issues. Yeah, I thought about it and I agree; Star Fox isn't the highest-spec game on the SNES but it's the one that fel...
