Re: Let's all go to the movies~

1001181514090954752 oh my god EDIT: Just a reminder! https://media.giphy.com/media/D5Ag2k5CwYrF6/giphy.gif You know what I just thought of that I can't get out of my head? How much I would have loved to see Ditko review Man of Steel and tear Snyder a new one for being a bad objectivist. I'm not sur...

Re: Obscure Old Games

Back in this era, the slick hotness every PC gamer RPG fan was playing was Baldur's Gate or maybe Icewind Dale. Torment is built using the same engine, but it doesn't resemble those games in any other way. I bought the D&D Anthology (the Baldur'ses, the Icewinds, Torment, and evidently somethin...

Re: TV Series On The Television

I need to stop reading the [...] comments section. I feel like it'd be worth starting a new thread to discuss why online discourse sucks so badly now. I think, as much as anything, it's that the need for skilled, active moderation increases dramatically as the size of the community does, but large ...

Re: TV Series On The Television

Apparently the sequence everyone is talking about is the one where he convinces a bunch of NRA members and congresscritters to support a law mandating the arming of toddlers. And with good reason. I can confirm that that segment was excellent, and makes a good case for the show (and for waiting unt...

Re: TV Series On The Television

Any framing of this show that doesn't center on his predatory history is an invalid one. ...there is a guy in the Ars Technica comments section right now who is arguing that Joss Whedon's behavior isn't anti-feminist, because if he were gay he would treat men just as badly as he treats women. I nee...

Re: Obscure Old Games

I feel like I should put my SD2SNES to work and try Terranigma. (I started Soul Blazer and liked it okay but quit because I found the bosses to be too much of a slog. Never played Illusion of Gaia.) But the SNES is in my office and I'm doing most of my gaming in my living room lately. Mostly because...

Re: TV Series On The Television

I expect that, like most political comedy shows, YouTube clips and word of mouth will allow the best segments to rise to the top.

Re: TV Series On The Television

I'm only 10 minutes or so into Who Is America? but so far yep, it sure is a Sacha Baron Cohen show. Baron Cohen's work is hit-or-miss because the reactions of his interviewees are out of his control. In his first segment, he plays an Alex Jones type and talks to Bernie Sanders. And I get opening wit...

Re: Bogus, batshit, banal, bizarre, or bicubic: Assorted News

Certainly. Even assuming the "we're doing it to call attention to the problem" line is sincere and not an ass-pull defense of a bad idea, it's not as if the Game Show Network is known for its sophisticated social commentary. Even if the show's being made with the best of intentions, it's a...

Maybe there's something about the nomination process that I don't understand, but even if Kavanaugh doesn't work out, I'm not seeing it making a lot of difference either way. I mean, as much as I'd like to rejoice over anyone connected to this administration stepping down or getting fired or not ge...

I really don't know what to make of the Black Panther. In. SPAAAAAAAAAACE! arc. "Okay, you guys, we've got a real opportunity here. New fanbase, new #1. You know what to do. Let's change the Black Panther comic up to appeal to our new audience. Let's make it more like that wildly popular movie....

Blomkamp to direct Robocop movie. Screenplay is by Ed Neumeier, who co-wrote the original.

Course, don't take for granted that this is going to happen until they actually start shooting. I'm still bummed Blomkamp didn't get to make that Alien movie he was working on.

New game show 'Paid Off' offers chance to eliminate student loan debt If this isn't the point where you say the student loan system is fucked, then nothing will get through. That's actually the point, at least according to the people making the show . “One of the mantras is ‘an absurd show to match...

While we're on the subject: Budiansky named Megatron, but not Optimus Prime. Denny O'Neil named Optimus Prime. (EDIT: Better link; now goes to a Comic Book Legends Revealed column instead of a line on O'Neil's Wikipedia page.) Those of you who are comics fans know who O'Neil is. Those of you who are...
