Kimmel has, once again, come out swinging on healthcare. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOlibbx5sx0 Result is predictable: "That late night TV host is unqualified to discuss healthcare," say people who insist that a reality TV host is qualified to be President. Kimmel responds. https://ww...

The Verge: For weeks, Equifax customer service has been directing victims to a fake phishing site It's a provocative headline but worth noting that the "phishing site" was set up by a white-hat to troll Equifax; it's not as bad as it sounds. But it easily could have been, which is the poi...

Re: War. War never changes. (Except when it does)

Mark Bowden at the Atlantic had an article in July called How to Deal With North Korea , subtitled "There are no good options. But some are worse than others." He argues -- persuasively, to me at least -- that our best bad option is to let Kim keep doing what he's doing, accept a nuclear N...

Re: Vita

I bought Dragon Quest Builders. Because I like to own things, I bought a physical copy. Because it was never released in America on physical media, I bought a copy from Malaysia on eBay. Because the game won't run on firmware v3.20, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to v3.60 . At which point I f...

Re: Hot game deals

GOG has a "big deal" sale on. Abe's Oddysee is free and a bunch of games are marked down; I think I'll get Wonder Boy for 20% off.

Rabin has an article coming at the High Times but it's not up yet. He does, however, have a collection of links to his previous ICP/Gathering of the Juggalos coverage. Meanwhile, Kyle Ryan has a pretty good overview at the AV Club.

Re: Hey [%target] Whatcha Playin'?

Fired up Shadow of Mordor yesterday and it's stopped working since the last time I played it. Game launches, I can load my save, but once play starts the framerate's unplayable and the controls are mostly unresponsive. (I tried running the benchmark; it stuttered at <1fps for the duration and then h...

As thrilling as it is to hear about every new step in Mueller's investigations, to me it always ends up feeling like going after Al Capone for tax evasion. It's working, but in a moral/ethical sense, the Russian collusion bullshit is practically the least bad thing on Trump's rap sheet. He's certai...

Mueller gets a warrant to investigate fraudulent Facebook accounts. The Facebook warrant "means that Mueller has concluded that specific foreign individuals committed a crime by making a 'contribution' in connection with an election," Mariotti wrote on Saturday. "It also means that h...

Equifax CIO and CSO "retire". Seeing a lot of misogynistic commentary directed at the CSO, Susan Mauldin, mostly over a LinkedIn profile that showed she had degrees in music composition -- it also shows she'd held security positions at other companies, but everybody seems awfully interest...

Thought I posted about this this morning, but apparently I didn't. Priest is taking over Justice League , with Pete Woods on art. This is great news. Priest's been grousing for ages that the Big Two have never given him an A-list comic (as a writer; he was the Spider-Man group editor for awhile in t...

Re: Sometimes Science is More Art than Science, Morty

I think books are going to be written about just how good this show is at communicating complex plots through minimal cues by using shorthand references to familiar tropes. Pickle Rick and The Ricklantis Mixup are the best examples and, not coincidentally, the best episodes of the season to date.

Re: and Dead Tree Comics

The most amazing thing about Chaykin is that all you have to do is look at his art -- and I'm not talking about the controversial stuff; any sample will do -- and you can tell that he's the kind of guy who writes editorials like that.
