The Nazis did become the prevailing force in Germany and a number of other countries for a time, and did so by very simply taking advantage of a situation where most people felt like "losers". The modern crop of advantage-takers don't have the serendipitous advantage of a recent Treaty of Versailles to build off of, but they do potentially have something much sweeter: a world they can drop into the crapper them-fucking-selves and a populace that's too damned confused by the modern information overload to even notice it. Preferably, I'd like to avoid having to deal with both another goddam Loser Army and the circumstances necessary for their mobilization.
Even without the very real damage already wrought by modern white terrorists and GGer scum, I would have thought that the very fact of our making legitimate comparisons to actual capital N-Nazis would make it clear that these people are anything but irrelevant? That they're in fact quite dangerous?
Trump's election mostly eradicated that weakness, at great cost.
As I said, it's important to understand the nature of your enemy. They are a bunch of whiny crybaby losers. It's also important to not underestimate them, or the harm they can cause to real, flesh and blood human beings if you do so.
Shit can get bad yo. My childhood taught me to never underestimate the crazy shit humans can normalize in even just one generation.

I think staring that sort of truth down is more a matter of bravery, a broken sense of humour or maybe just bloody minded fatalism. I can certainly understand people being emotionally unable to accept it because fucking hell it's a scary and hopeless looking abyss.
