Shocking Revelations and Epiphanies
Re: Shocking Revelations and Epiphanies
Through all this pandemic and isolation stuff, it has struck me how little my life has changed. I've been de facto isolated for a long time due to my hypersomnia, so when health authority recommendations come down, for me it's mostly business as usual, plus masks. And I have to admit there's a small, petty and gross part of me that's been like "look at all these people living my life for a year, and they're all losing their minds, lol".
But then I got to thinking, you know, if folk are this messed up after a year of this... how damaged am I, after literally twenty-two times longer? Is it like one of those gruesome injuries that destroys your nerves so completely that you don't feel like there's anything wrong?
Anyway.
Oof, I guess.

Hmm, no. I don't think you're damaged. In fact, if I was to be absolutely perfectly honest with you, I'd say you're probably one of the most mentally stable people I've ever met. You have had your share of problems (I remember you having trouble with your mom a few years back) but overall you're in the upper 10% for sure.
Also, some people adapt well to isolation, and some don't. I'm a social butterfly and constantly hung out with my friends, but I adapted pretty well. I mean, I miss my friends, but I'm alright.
On the other hand, I've read loners who are complaining about how after almost a year of literally seeing nobody (and not just very rarely) they feel lonely and isolated and depressed.
(I'm depressed too, and not being able to use my friends as a balm sucks, but it's mostly for other reasons. And besides, I have you guys. Jackbox does a lot to help me, no meme.)
So yeah. It just varies from person to person. You, luckily, seem to be the type that handles isolation fine. It doesn't mean you're damaged, please don't think that.

This summer I got to stay home all day in quarantine with my wife and my daughter. NGL lie those were legit the happiest days of my life.
Now that she's dead it's just lonely.
Changing context, I guess.

The happiest times of my adult life have often been those first couple months after being fired.

They couldn't get the likeness rights for Herve.
Right? Oddjob wasn't a little person. Dude was 5'10" and 220 pounds. Nicknack was the little-person henchman.
I've never seen any confirmation of that, but...that's gotta be it, right? I can't think of any other reason why they'd make Oddjob a little person except that it was supposed to be Nicknack but they couldn't get the likeness rights.

I just figured they were being racist because they wanted a short guy to balance out Jaws and "Asian guys are short, right?"

Re: Shocking Revelations and Epiphanies
A friend of mine for more than ten years now goes by the online name "Nala" (well, DeafNala. Because he is.).
I always knew the Al in there referred to the fact that his name was Alan, but I'd never quite knew that what "Nala" meant since it clearly wasn't a Lion King reference, but never felt it was worth asking about.
Alan
Nala
I'm a fucking idiot.

I've occasionally been known to go by "slimy weapon" or "ow, male spiny" in certain circles.
...okay no I'm not. But I could.
