I'd wait a bit to see who survives the mutiny.

Did I mention we rescued a kitten from a garbage truck a couple weeks ago? And he's growing so quickly!

Okay, let's take a deep breath here.

I think it was an accident. The story I've heard is that my wife was passing a group of volunteers helping cleaning up a camp for homeless people in the neighborhood, and they had a litter of kittens. Apparently, they heard some crazy myewing sounds coming from a garbage bag being compacted in a garbage truck, so they yelled for the driver to stop and found this little guy. He must have been caught in a box or something and nobody noticed for a while.

So my wife and daughter took him home, presumably riding in the the basket of her bike. After going back and forth a bit, it sounds like my son has named him Oreo.

So let me start by saying, my dog is fine.

But she managed to scratch her ear and -- here, I'll spoiler-tag this; content warning for blood, but again, no real harm, just a scratch -- it bled a hell of a lot, so I just saw her lying in her bed with blood all over her and it was pretty alarming!

So I turned on the light and went to get something to clean her up, and she got up and walked out to the back porch, and I guess she must have felt wet -- either from the blood or from my dabbing at her with a wet paper towel, or both -- and decided to shake off. I guess better she did that on the back porch than in the house, because she splattered blood all over the wall and floor.

At any rate, by this point I had determined it was just a small scratch, so we were all good to laugh at the absurdity of the whole situation. But yeah, that was a new one.

That sounds pretty goddamn terrifying. Glad it was nothing. Tell her she's three days early to be putting on bloody horrorshows like that!

Generally the two foot jump onto a mattress is an impossible physical feat. We coralled her from visiting dogs once by placing a single plank of wood across a doorframe. The cat was stepping over it.

I guess I should just say it: Poppy probably doesn't have much time left.

Her quality of life has gone way down since last year. Hip problems that keep her from walking very well, then pressure sores since she doesn't move around as much. On top of all that, she's just plain old; most Great Pyrenees live about 8-10 years, and she'll be turning 11 in April.

In the past couple of weeks, she's gotten to the point where she can barely stand to go potty without help. We've thought about taking her for rides in the new wagon, but she's almost as heavy as I am and can't really climb that high anymore.

It looks like we're going to talk with her vet within the next few weeks to see what we should do about this. But unless there's some miraculous recovery, this might be it for our beloved floof beast.
