It's actually a genetic thing. AA genotype at the marker rs2741762 and/or TT genotype at the marker rs3930459 have higher chances of cilantro tasting like soap, with GG and CC genotypes respectively having lower chances.

But can you see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

Genetic engineering gone awry.

It's the cinnamon and sugar swirled all over every bite.

Trust me, I went to school for stuff like this.

Man, I used to love Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Way too goddamn sweet for my grownup taste buds. The commercials aren't kidding; when you stop being a kid it is no longer appetizing.

I can still enjoy it, but I found out recently that I'm also affected by "teenager repellent" tone generators, so I might just physically be as immature as I act.

As a 32-year-old teen I would like to apologize to all old dudes on behalf of the teen generation for decades of gangsterism and nonsense.

Disagree!

Though I find most frosting (or is it icing? Help me, R^2!) sickeningly sweet and have to scrape it off cake. I also wish there were more marshmallow-like things that weren't sugar-loaded. Mocchi and Korean rice cake are about as close as I think I've seen.

Anheuser-Busch is buying my favorite neighborhood brewery.

I have no idea how to feel about this. I guess at least it means I should be able to buy Hop Knot when I travel out-of-state now.

They and Miller have been doing this for years. It basically just amounts to massive increases in production and distribution-- quality always seems to remain high.

When I don't know what to buy someone for Christmas, they get homemade orange fudge and a box of fine chocolate; it shows that I spent time and that I bought them something real fancy that they're going to like but wouldn't have thought of getting for themselves, and when it's all eaten it doesn't clutter up their homes with random crap.

Anyway, when I was going through the local highfalutin boutiques looking for the highfalutinest chocolate I could find, I came across a small bag of "gingerbread chocolate nuggets" that really caught my attention, and I bought it for myself. They're tiny little chocolate-covered candy nuggets that crumble into a sweet cinnamon-y powder when you bite into them, and curiously, they have that strange golden sheen when you hold them up to the light. I was wondering how they managed that effect, so I looked at the ingredients just now and, well, the last one on the list is "gold powder".

So yeah I'm ringing in the New Year by eating gold.

I ain't got the perfect life, but things could be worse.

So at this point I assume you're literally shitting gold.

Not in any immediately useful way, but, technically, that is correct. Glorious!

Man that does feel like some Caligula-grade decadence somehow.

Haha, oh man, yeah that's pretty much the sort of thing that went through my mind. I can't think of a less useful thing that could be done with this rare, valuable resource.

Welp, gonna have another piece. What else am I gonna do with it?

Speakeasy Metropolis Lager just might be my new favorite beer.

Not sure if I've had Metropolis, but yeah Speakeasy is a good brewery.

I haven't been to anyplace that carries them lately, but I used to go to Yardhouse pretty frequently (when I was working on that side of town) and would usually try any Speakeasy brew they had on special.

Making apple butter today, we'll see how that goes.

Meanwhile...

I have a bunch of basa and a bunch of taco stuffs. Any suggestions for an appropriate sauce for this combo? Hard shells rather than soft ones, if that matters (I know fish tacos tend to go a bit better with soft shells, but it's what I've got).

I was thinking maybe make some pico de gallo and combine that with green onion and fried fish chunks. Probably some additional sauce/spices, but I'm not sure what.

So I've got a garden full of more leafy greens than I know what to do with and I am trying to figure out ways to eat them.

So tonight I had the bright idea to ask the question, "Can you make a quesadilla with a giant chard leaf instead of a tortilla?"

It turns out the answer is "kinda". Even though chard browns up, it doesn't get quite crispy enough to make a quesadilla you can eat with your hands. (A burrito or taco might work better; maybe I will try that at a future date.)

BUT even though I wound up having to eat it with a fork and a knife, it was delicious. It wound up not resembling a quesadilla without a tortilla so much as an omelet without any eggs. At any rate, it came out really well and I can definitely see myself eating it a few times a week for as long as I've got the plants growing. I think come Saturday morning I might mix it in with some eggs and make an actual omelet out of it.
