WEATHER II: Hell on Earth
Re: Weather
Fall arrived here on schedule. I like the part of the year where it's pleasant to live here.
Re: Weather
Yeah it was 90 degrees a week ago and now its 55. The midwest can be a fickle asshole but in the end I still live in Wisconsin.
Re: Weather
Oh, it's still 90 degrees here. We consider that pleasant.
...7-day forecast shows it'll be back up to 100 on Saturday. I may need to revisit my statement about seasons changing correctly.

Ah yes, "we" as in "crazed people from another planet".
Re: Weather
Well, 92's the high. Right now it's a very pleasant 68.
Re: Weather
Ugh. The weather network says there's a chance of rain this afternoon, but given how the weather looks right now, it'll be one of those piddly weak showers that just makes things more humid.
Re: Weather
I need to bake a cake for Franz's birthday, but I wonder if the weather will be cool enough to run the oven. Let's check the-
Huh. The next few days on the forecast are just gifs of the melting Nazi from Raiders of the Lost Arc. No temperature, no humidity, no wind, not even the little icons of suns or clouds. Just a loop of Arnold Ernst Toht melting like a popsicle before a hair dryer.
Uh... is it possible to grill a cake instead? No? Hrm.

Time for an ice cream cake!

I commented that it feels nostalgically like Las Vegas, you know, a city right near the center of the Mojave desert.
I do live out in the desert-edge foothills of Orange County but it's never felt quite like this before. I know what a real desert heat feels like, trust me; this is drier than California gets, even when it's ass deep into a seven-year drought.
Even as a temporary weather pattern, feeling that kind of air here is making my skin crawl something fierce. I mean, not just literally.

Make a shitton of cinnamon crepes, make a stack of them layered with whipped cream, cover with ganache.

It cooled down here right on the first day of autumn like somebody flipped a switch. But then it got hot again and it's been mostly mid-to-high 90's. High of 96 today. Forecast currently calls for things to finally slip below 90 on Monday, but that's 6 days out so, y'know, not the most reliable prediction.
At least it's nice in the evenings. Which is good, because I had to drive my old car around the neighborhood the other night (which is a separate story in and of itself; tl;dr I let it sit there on the curb for a few months without driving it because I did not want to drive a car with no AC and the battery died, and then I got a note from the police saying I need to move it off the curb, so I had to jump it, drive it around long enough to get a good charge, and park it in the driveway).
Re: Weather
For clarity, the high here today is 104.
Re: Weather
Wound up being 98 here.
Which, yeah, beats the hell out of 104. I can feel every degree past 100.

Re: Weather
It's never gotten to -40 here, but we've had windchill in the -10 to -20 range all week. Next week it's apparently going to rain? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Re: Weather
Only in America! (Specifically the midwest)
Re: Weather
Yesterday's high was 76. It was 12 degrees above the average.
Now, that's beautiful weather (notwithstanding the terrible air quality). But when we get weather like this in January it kinda makes me nervous about what June's gonna be like.
