Cliche as it is, it really is a dry heat. Humidity's a killer. We have days when it's over 100, and days when it's humid, but generally not both at the same time (because when it's humid, that generally means it's about to storm).

I've been back east when it was 90 degrees and humid as fuck. It was worse than when it's 103 and dry; probably more equivalent to when it's 114 and dry.

Thunderstorm in Southern California at 6am?

First thought: Oh god, thunderstorm!
Second thought: Crap, did it wake up the baby? No? Good.
Third thought: ...wait, this means I don't have to water the plants today. Sweet!

11:30am thought: Damn, I should've left some things on the patio to catch more water.

DAMNIT. We're supposed to get 10" to 16" of snow over Friday and Saturday this week. I've been planning for months to go to the Detroit Institute of Arts for a special tea, coffee, and chocolate exhibit. ;_;

Me IRL

The exhibit goes til March, so even if I miss the lolita meetup to go see it, I'll get there at some point.

Also, I thought we only got like 6" of snow yesterday, but according to weather underground we got 11.5" :o About half of that fell on my head as I stubbornly walked to brunch a mile each way.

It was chilly here for a couple of weeks -- high 30's at night; got the electric blanket down out of the closet -- but now it's warmed right back up. Forecast is 74 for today, 77 for Thursday.

Which, y'know, that's perfect weather so I can't exactly complain about it. But it shouldn't be that warm in December, and this has implications for what it's going to be like in July.

Today's weather is "wintry mix," which is the forecast's euphemism for slush and sleet just everywhere. Then late this afternoon the wind is going to pick up to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, which is just kind of terrifying and I hope I manage to walk the mile and a half home from work without going to Oz. I don't even _like_ emerald green.

Get a broomstick and wear a large enough dress to act as a sail. Be the rider.

I knew this month has been kind of grim and grey and rainy.

I did not realize that Toronto has had only 12 hours of sunshine the entire month.

It is mid february.

It is also 11 deg C. not only can I actually ride my motorbike to the motorbike lunch meet, I don't even have to max out on layers of clothing to do so.

Like this is cool and all for letting me do this fun thing when it would normally be awful out, but...

No word of a lie, a guy I used to work with started calling me "The Green Power Ranger" when he saw my bike.

The actual pic of my bike makes this funnier:

Yeah, it's been spring in Michigan for several days, and is apparently going to continue with spring/summer weather for several more. (50 - 70 F degree days.)

It's fun walking around without a coat on in February, but I hope this doesn't destroy the apple crop or something. I've definitely been seeing snowdrops and crocuses shooting up, they're going to have a bad day when winter comes back in a week or so.

We're in the middle of a stretch of about ten days non-stop rain (barring one clear day two days ago), fairly heavy at that.

For Toronto, this is insane. We don't (didn't?) have a monsoon season. Obviously there's flooding etc.

Oh good, it's 106 out and I still don't have a car with air conditioning.

On the plus side, it's supposed to be 10 degrees cooler tomorrow, and a gorgeous 75ish Sunday through Tuesday. It's supposed to heat up again after that, but maybe I'll have a car by then.

(Franzie and I are playing at the McGaugh playground)
...uh oh, it's starting to rain. I'm cutting it short, kiddo.

(rain intensifies as we reach the covered halls)
...I think I heard thunder...

(rain eases, but still coming down hard)
Good thing this is a jogging stroller...

(Franzie gets bundled up, dramatic music wafts in from an unseen source, and we run for it)

(make it back home, about 10-15 minutes since the first drops)

Alexis: Aw, poor daddy! I'm sorry...
Me: It's alright, is he okay?
Alexis: He's just cold... Hey, it stopped raining.
Me: what
