Most offices I've been to admit it's their own damn fault if the insurance company doesn't cover what they charged, but I suppose I live in an area where people tend to be lawyers.

That's where you ask your insurance what doctor to go to, that doctor asks the insurance what work they can do, the insurance company pays for the work, then the doctor turns around and tells me they want more than the insurance company gave them and now that's my problem.

My impression was that wasn't actually allowed; my mom used to do billing for a Chiropractor's office and he had specifically inflated his prices (with a "cash at time of service discount" for the uninsured) so that he'd still make enough money to stay in business after the insurance companies said "we don't think your work is worth that much money, we'll only pay 85-90%, and no you can't bill our customers for that either."

It seems like federally it's completely illegal if medicare approved the charges. For New York specifically it's totally illegal for out-of-plan services in the same building as your in-plan provider. However there doesn't seem to be any specific rule about the doctor deciding that the amount they were paid by insurance wasn't enough if they're in-plan for approved work.

Fortunately / Unfortunately that's as far down the rabbit hole as I need to go, it appears it's just a very small, specific type of testing (for anus shades, if you must know) that has a deductible on my plan, and only like 20% of the charge goes to it. I've only ever had "we pay nothing until you hit the deductible" before, so this kind of billing was alien to me.

A haunted bunghole seems like something you'd talk to a parapsychologist about, rather than a GP.

Bought a toy plane on ebay from a guy in Michigan. Dude sends the wrong one. Gets me to return it, which is kind of dumb because it costs way more than just letting me keep it (the plane was $15, but shipping was $25), which is what most sellers do in this kind of situation. But whatever, he wants it back, he covers shipping, okay sure.

After I ship it back he replies "Oh man I wish I had known you live in Canada, cos I also have a Canadian address."

EDIT: Oh, and this was after he told me "I can't just print and send you a return label since you're not in the US"

It's nearing nap time, so we better get kiddo to the park and let him burn off some energy... wait, they have an honest-to goodness sandbox. We better bring sand toys!

(fifteen minutes later)

Oh crap, there's a whole church's worth of families here. Oh crap, their kids want to play with us... well, I guess there's no harm in sharing.

(fifty seconds later)

On the way home today I saw a city bus go by, empty except for the driver who had a huge, shit-eating grin on his face.

The digital display above the windshield, which normally displays the route, read "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"

Kiddo fussed herself to sleep at 7:30 and woke up hungry at... 6:30. I'm able to count full nights of sleep for the last five months on one hand, so that was a pleasant surprise.

It's cute, but not worth the import tax on literally an april fools joke made real.

Also hi it's been a while, I went so far outside of my comfort zone I wasn't sure I was going to make it back, then I came home to everything in the house broke.

Last week four seperate people around me had nervous breaksdowns and came to me for help. At th e same time.
