Two turkey vultures flanking a groundhog, just hanging out in a back yard on my street. I watched them for several minutes, they were just chilling.

Vultures are so cool. I always love seeing them. Fuck the vulture haters, they are beautiful birds.

I should just stop reading the news. This is getting to be too much even for me.

"Let's check the board notifications and see... what's... good God, man. Can we at least throw in a joke somewhere?"

But yeah, there are some days where I can't even make it past the headlines.

"Customs seized a shipment of hair extensions made by and from orphans? Yeah, don't need to read more than that."

A friend and neighbour had to drag hubby back down to England for a family intervention because some internet random from a Facebook conspiracy group had him convinced he was the no shit avatar of the angel of vengeance, and that he should sneak out at night and burn down a stranger's house in retribution over rando's recovered memories of satanic ritual abuse.

Apparently people aren't coping with the lockdown very well.

I sometimes wonder if I'm even really the same species as some people.

I'm not competent to psychoanalyse someone I only know peripherally, and wouldn't have any business doing so if I could, but suffice to say he's been through some shit, was in a vulnerable state, and the usual fucksticks smelled that blood in the water a mile off. It seems like an extreme example of something I've been seeing with many extrovert comrades, they're not internet native and locking them all in their homes with nothing else to do has been the worst kind of Eternal September.

mharr, glad the guy had someone looking out for him at least, before something terrible happened.

My days are exhausted: I've had pretty bad insomnia for at least 2 weeks straight. I always have a little insomnia, it's normal to take around 1 hour to fall asleep, but this is ridiculous. ~3 hours to fall asleep and I wake up every hour or 3, and then another hour to go back to sleep again. I'm afraid I'm going to get sick, I'm so tired.
I was already doing most of the things Experts Recommend, but I've just added cardio exercise and meditation, and I'm going to buy a stronger dosage of melatonin. Don't know what else to do. Might try to sleep under the dining room table tonight, since that's the only room with an air conditioner and it's been in the 90s every night lately. Eliminate the too-hot variable. Other variables I can identify are stress, anxiety, allergies, and a decrease in general activity level since lockdown.

I know that for me personally if it's too hot I simply can't sleep at all, so I'm hoping that's the culprit for you (combined with your normal difficulty)

Same for both of us. There's a reason the priority AC unit in our apt is in the bedroom and not the living room.

I don't have any say about which room the AC unit is in-- landlord had already cut a hole straight through the wall, that's where it is.

In a better day post, I had just parked in town when a small bird tried to fight itself in my sideview mirror for several seconds.

Too hot and not enough physical activity are definitely the most likely culprits in my experience, in that order.

Can you run one of those tinfoil conduit things from AC to bed as an emergency measure?

mharr, I don't think so? It's not a very powerful AC unit (only keeps the room it's in at about 80 when it's hot enough to run it) and the bed is in the opposite end of the house. But I do have an air mattress, and as an emergency measure I can sleep in the living room. Which I may do tonight given there's an heat advisory warning.

My portable AC unit (I put my computer setup/home office in the one room in the house with no central AC vent... derp) is set to 69 degrees, and the central AC thermostat is set to drop it to 65 at night to sleep.
