:(
That does indeed suck.
I can't be the only one who's getting "that R^2 feeling" when I see your name in this thread.

Not really a post for this area, but I've been having problems managing my stuff lately and calling on my support system has been really helpful in getting shit steady again.

SO it turns out my parents hadn't told my sister yet about the death of a dear family friend, a couple of weeks ago.
They didn't do this because she's prone to getting seriously ill when she's stressed.

Have you tried looking at something like Zenni Optical? I get my glasses there and usually only pay 50 or 60 dollars. I know it's not much, but hopefully that can take some of the edge off this rough time.
Re: Shittier Days
Yeah, $400 seems ... outlandish. Is it the lenses or the frame?

Re: Shittier Days
Depends on the prescription.
I buy my frames online to save money ($120~) and get lenses put in locally ($350~) and my glasses still wind up running over $500 by the time I'm done.

My eyesight is so bad that I can't read the computer screen while sitting at my desk without the glasses on. I have to be so close my nose is almost touching the glass to read anything.

Same here, but seriously, take a look at the prices on Zenni (http://www.zennioptical.com/). Even with the extra strong fee on my lenses and better than just plain plastic lenses, I still come out way ahead over any store/optometrist prices. With or without vision insurance.

Re: Shittier Days
I would never buy such a sensitive prescription online. If they fuck it up, it's a terrible pain to get anything fixed. Not worth the savings, IMO. They just cost what they cost.
There are a few things I would never try to cut corners on. Motorcycle tires, and eyeglasses rank pretty high on that list.

I've bought prescription eyeglasses online before, it was perfectly fine. I think I had a quibble about one of the lenses and they replaced it without argument.
That said, my prescription is like -0.25, so it's not like I need anything fancy.

Re: Shittier Days
Yeah, for lower, stock prescriptions, you're probably fine.
Re: Shittier Days
I've used Zenni for the past 3 or so years and never had an issue with the lenses, and my eyes haven't changed much in the last 5 or 6 years. I hate to harp on it, but if I can save someone money...

Man, that's pretty shitty. I'm -3.5 with little to no astigmatism, but my mom is a friggin -15. It's hard as hell for her to find contacts.

I can't not take pity on someone in such a state. This may refresh your memory.
Re: Shittier Days
My eyesight is so bad they have to special order the lenses. If I can figure out how to read this goddamn paper and which of the 5 numbers are my vision I'll share that with you, but I am pretty sure that, like Commander Shepard, I have special eyes.
