The suffix "-wich" in a British placename, as in 'Sandwich' and 'Norwich' means it was once a source of salt.

The Canadian Navy has a supply ship named the Asterix.

But does it supply boulders to the Obelix?

TIL...

(Although, as several replies have already pointed out, the "Parisian" French Bart and the cop speak, aren't actually very Parisian at all. Not half enough nasal snobbishness.)

Oof. I had never heard the France dub before. It's downright gross to listen to. Good Lord. And yeah, that's not Parisian. Heck, if it actually had been the Parisian accent, it would have been a lot better.

The basic IDEA is sound at least, even if the execution is poor. I've heard more than a few stories involving Quebecers being considered totally incomprehensible when visiting Paris or other parts of France. Seems awfully weird that the dubbing company couldn't find someone capable of a basic stereotypical "Academy" accent though.

That said, hearing Lac-St-Jean, Jonquière, and Alma used in the Steamed Hams thing is hysterical to me, for whatever reason. The possibility that there's old episodes where they reference Pierre Bourque, or Bernie Landry, or whoever blows my mind.

We tend to do that localization thing a lot. King of the Hill was moved from Arlen, Texas to Sainte-Irène, Québec. Hank became Henri, Peggy became Paulette, Boomhauer became Papineau, etc. etc. etc.

Never mind the Texas-shaped clock in the kitchen and everyone having a collective freakdown over a single snowflake.

I'm trying to think of a more wrong idea than "King of the Hill doesn't have to take place in Texas" and not coming up with anything.

Maybe if you pretend it's Louisiana instead, it might be possible to reconcile the cognitive dissonance. xD

Oh, wait, now I have a question.

What the hell did they render "I tell you hwhat" into?

Hmm... I remember Henri says "gériboire" a lot, which is a sort of mild quasi-swear, but he's otherwise unremarkably plain-spoken. I suspect the dub did away with catchphrases and such to make more room for natural-sounding dialog.

This is the only clip I could find with the actual broadcast VA, to give you an idea (though it's mostly Dan/Dale). Do enjoy the vintage Alfonso Gagliano name-drop and passing reference to McMasterville, which is the most famous that town has ever been.

They didn't do season 8, but some schmo on youtube decided to do an amateur dub (predictably crummy) and it's clogging the search results.

Oh man. It's like it's 2003 all over again! xDDD

...of course I had to listen to it twice to understand what hell Dan was saying.

There was that Iraqi version of The Simpsons where Homer couldn't drink or eat pork and Bart couldn't disrespect his elders.

And there was a Wonder Woman porn parody with no bondage or lesbian scenes.
