Rib-Blasted and Bedunked-On by the Earth Itself

FUCK I just slipped on some black ice outside of my apartment and full-on flipped up in the air like a fucking cartoon and slamajammed on the ground, back-first.

Hit the ground with my elbow and the portion of my back right below my right shoulder blade. I heard something that might've been a pop, might've been a crack. I have poppy bones.

Hurts when I move in a way that uses that rib, but it's not like a jabbing, startling pain? Do I hope it's just bruised?

Any of y'all every broken or bruised a rib? What's that feel like?

I have broken several ribs on a few occasions and bruised them a bunch.

Here's a quick test: does it hurt to move? Might be a bruised rib. Cough. Do you want to die? If yes, probably broken.


Granted, the two times I broke ribs I also had pneumonia so

I'm laying down and can cough with only dull pain, so, please god let that mean I didn't break my rib 3 days into my 2 week sanity-reclaimation PTO.

In my experience, you probably just bruised a rib, the under muscle of the rib, the stuff holding the rib together or some organ inside you.

As Lottel said earlier, the difference between bruised and broken is usually "do I need to go to the doctor" and "I need someone else to physically take me to the doctor". As long as there's no blood coming out of the major orifi you're probably good.

Of course you should doctor, Yada Yada, but they won't do much if it's bruised and in this world medical assistance is not always viable if not necessary.

Urgent Care is like a $20 copay and they'll tell you in 5 minutes if you have a broken bone or not.

Thaaat's variable. It's like $120 for five minutes to get an amoxicillin scrip for an ear infection, for me.

Yeah I went to an Urgent Care today because it was still pretty bad when I woke up.

X-rays showed no breaks! She said I should be fine in a week.

Doesn't FEEL like it's as minor as she said, but, we'll see how it is in a few days.

Radiologist looked over the x-rays, called me, and said there is in fact a hairline fracture at the end of the rib, which is why it hurts like a mofo. So I did break my rib!

I've done that a couple of times. Had to get stitches on my head once.
