the thing is though. TB was GREAT if he saw you as his people. if you were a friend or family member of his and someone hurt you he would be ALL OVER the problem. Cheering you up and supporting you after abuse and tearing down whoever it is that hurt you in the first place.

The problem was that his temper and ego meant that he lashed out at a lot of people who didn't deserve the treatment they got. and the people who were closest to him saw a compassionate, supportive, friend who was always trying his best to make the world a better place. Cause thats also what he was.

He's also an example of how major life events can change yourself and those around you for the better. In 2011 he was the kind of person who would tweet "get cancer and die" at someone, and later would stand with the GG crowd, but ended up being a force for more positivity and good and recognizing that people can apologize and change, and that you should apologize and change because anything can happen, and you want to be decent while you have the chance.

But if he really did take a stand against transphobia more recently like I've heard, that's good.

Meglin was funny. He wrote much of MAD's editorial material (intros, ads, etc.). He rewrote or punched-up articles that were in need of extra laughs. And he recognized comedic talent in writers who submitted work and encouraged them and guided them. At least half of MAD's best writers during that period were "found" by Nick as were many of its artists. When I researched my now-outta print book, MAD Art, I interviewed just about everyone who'd ever worked for the magazine and was still around to be interviewed. A lot of those folks told me that had it not been for Nick, they never would have had their proud association with the magazine.
