I'm sad he did not know the horror of late-stage Alzheimer's before dying, if that helps

Codeweavers reports that Jozef Kucia, the leader of the VKD3D project (WINE's Direct3D-to-Vulkan translation layer), has died in a caving accident at the age of 28.

I don't know anything about Kucia beyond what's in that post, but it's sad to lose someone so young and so talented.

Bill Schelly, comic book historian. I've only read his Kurtzman book, but I learned a lot and I know it was just one of many deeply-researched books he wrote about important figures in comics history.

Puppeteer Rob Coneybear

I'm sure few if any of you know of The Friendly Giant, but - with all due respect to Fred Rogers and Ernie Coombs - that show probably meant more to me than any other early-childhood show I ever watched.

Bob Homme as the unflappable and soothing Giant is something that will stick with me forever. Even today, just the memories of Bob's voice are surprisingly calming. Basically he was one of those humans who replicated the fairly common phenomenon where you have a dogs who is very large, yet is nothing but calm and reassuring in temperament.

Bob left us some years ago, so Rob was really the last major living actor who remained. But he was every bit a part of the story as Bob was; as the article rightly says, the show would been quite incomplete, and probably pretty boring without them.

And only 68 years old, at that. I'm not normally a superstitious person and I'm probably just wearing pessimism blinders, but why is it that the good ones always seem to die too young?

GOOD ONES
Former Guild Leader - 49 (cancer)
Grandma M - 56 (cancer)
Aunt K - 59 (murder)

BAD ONES
45th President - 74 (and counting!)
Phyllis Schlafly - 92 (cancer/excess porcupine quills in heart)
Strom Thurmond - 100 (heart failure/lost annual games with Satan)

Having no empathy circuits in your brain makes living with wealth and power a zero stress existence. For the good guys this is a life and death struggle, for the bad guys it's just a cool game they get to play.
