Ian McKellen calls on gay people to stand in support of the trans community.
"common or garden gay" is such a wonderful expression.

Re: QUILTBAG
I am actively trying to not post so many horrible things, but this is pretty fucking important.
Re: QUILTBAG
i hate that i've watched enough pekora to read that in her voice
Re: QUILTBAG
I saw something trending on Twitter about "detrans awarness" a few minutes ago. As usual, my first thought was "I need to figure out how to block the Trending column," and my second thought was some variant of "seriously, what the hell?"
As I thought, it's something about transgender people who have gone back on their transition.* Considering that just a couple weeks ago there was a "fire Fauci" hashtag going around that smelled astroturfed to me, I'm suspicious about how real this might be. I also see a subreddit for it, but they have one of those for everything and that doesn't necessarily make it a thing.
So I guess I'm trying to ask if this is seriously a thing. Or is it another bullshit front on the culture war?

Re: QUILTBAG
IIRC, the rate of transition reversal is extremely low - nothing is ever 100% after all, so yes, it does happen.
But the mere fact that it does happen, even if rarely, is another point for reactionary idiots to cling to and blow way out of proportion. I've seen some blatantly inflated numbers cited, but obv obv obv, I try not to read reactionary drek in the first place.

Well, in my experience, it'd look a lot like Global chat in your average online multiplayer game.
Re: QUILTBAG
Detransitioners exist, but they're usually detransitioning because of social or economic pressure.
When those pressures are relieved, they tend to retransition. Also
Just a note on syntax: the proper term would be "transgender people", as transgender can be an adjective or noun, but not a verb.

Re: QUILTBAG
A few years back, Ontario passed an anti-conversion therapy law* and now they're getting ready to do the same federally.
So anyway, yesterday, in the House debates, some crank Tory MP (from Alberta, because of course) was bemoaning this, talking about the dangers of "lesbian activity" (oh no!).
Today, #lesbianactivity is trending in Canada, and if you need a laugh, that tag is delivering the goods and then some.
*(shout out to the author, Cherie DiNovo, a United Church Minister and former member of Provincial Parliament, who holds the record for most all-party-supported bills passed in Ontario history).

Elvira accidently lets it slip that her dog plays basketball, states "I didn't want to put any pressure on him."
