I like that there's presumed to be just no option to turn the car off. Oh no! Our dog needs air conditioning! Our computers turn off when the car does! ...really guys?

Like, we're being asked to believe that either the cops are so stupid as to not figure out a workaround for long stops to prevent their cars literally melting, or that Chevrolet is so stupid that they just packed in a pile of electronics without doing any proper engineering work whatsoever.

Which, I guess either of those IS technically possible.

The easiest next step would be to ask Chevrolet if this claim checks out. Their answer could be a lot of fun.

Yeah I can't speak to police cars but I *have* spent a considerable amount of time in parked minivans with the AC blasting when it was 105 out, and my anecdotal experience is that they weren't subject to any more engine trouble than the next vehicle.

Also the mechanic in me is furious at the absurd presumption that if your car's engine is overheating horribly, to the point of melting internal components, that simply opening the hood (in 100F weather!) provides enough cooling to offset this.

Lets not even get into the fact that a car idles at lower RPM than literally every other time that its in use. Like its absolutely bullshit. Cars run at like 210 degrees, if they're having issues they need a new thermostat and better coolant. When your coolant is so hot it boils over people have been known to go so far as to drive a car with no hood in order to increase airflow until they can get it to a shop, but that's just it, this is in a "my car already needs repair but I have to get there scenarios". Not in, "my car is hot but also opening my hood stops one of the best forms of accountability we've been forced to endure in decades" situations.

Unlikely as the possibility is, it would be hilarious justice if Chevrolet sued them for libel.

I've definitely been in weather where sitting idle in the sun is enough to overheat my engine, but this is definitely shady.

The article does mention that chevrolet knows about it and specifically ask that they should contact chevrolet and ask them to fix it.

Again, don't really like cops, but just taking at face values some facebook post does nobody any favors.

Cait has the better take on this so far.

You only have like a minute to delete a post after posting, so that would assume you noticed what you've done in that amount of time.

Huh. I never noticed that the option to delete posts had been removed. How bizarre.

I thought we were just leaving these up because it was funnier that way. :B

Oh I just assumed everyone obsessively reread their posts "live" after posting it despite just literally writing and proofreading it like I do

Let's just say I'm glad we don't have a "edited x times" marker on posts.
