Jernalism!
Re: Jernalism!
I'm basically in the same boat in the "I'm not really that mad at Trump, or at least, compared to the reactions of people to his shit, my anger at Trump is a molecule to a giant, endlessly screaming star."
Re: Jernalism!
It's like an episode of The Twilight Zone. Main character wakes up in a world where something fucking crazy is happening, and everybody else is acting like it's normal, and when he starts to freak out they treat him like he's the crazy one.
In the best episodes of The Twilight Zone, the disturbing thing isn't usually whatever science fiction thing is going on; it's people's reaction to it.

In the end, it surprises even me how easily people will go along with fascism and cult-like leaders. Even those who oppose Trump tend to try to spin his actions as "well maybe he was just joking" or whatever, because I think it's just really hard for people to realize that cartoonishly evil people on Trump's level actually exist in this world.

I guess that part doesn't surprise me much, but only because my childhood was a visceral lesson in how people can accept any level of seemingly-crazy as perfectly normal, so long as you warm them up to it over time.
It's funny we refer to them as "cartoonishly evil", when really, the reason we think of them like that is because people who lived through previous instances of such real-world villainy (or who grew up in them abroad before escaping to a western country) went on to make cartoons for the obvious main purpose of fun and entertainment fun, but also as sort of a cautionary tale anyone could understand. This is a real villain. This is what they do.
That's why cartoon villains all act in similar ways, berating subordinates for their own mistakes, externalizing blame, the way said minions all fawn over the leader while plotting against each other and the main villain himself - all those Skeletor memes we know and love are a comedic version of real life rather than anything out of a realm of pure fantasy.
In summary, Samurai Pizza Cats was an unheeded warning to humanity.

And Tapper's certainly no fan of Trump. The vibe I get from people like him is one I've talked about before: a journalist perceives an obligation toward objectivity, and completely misunderstands what objectivity is, mistaking it for "let's hear the perspective from someone who says it's raining and someone who says it's not" instead of "let's look out the window." When conservatives criticize the journalist as a biased liberal, this causes him to become defensive and double down on the both-sides approach, to show how fair and objective he is being.
So we wind up with View from Nowhere shit. (If we're lucky. If we're not lucky, we get the NYT's coverage of Iraqi WMDs.) We get articles like Tapper's that report on a Very Serious Issue but also hedge their bets and suggest maybe the whole thing is actually just a joke, and do not bother to include compelling, incredibly obvious evidence for why it isn't (the word "Arpaio" does not appear in Tapper's article).

Couldn't even tell you if this cartoonist was left or right, let alone sane.
Even people I know who live in Florida have no idea what's going on in this image. Including the one who sees the same cartoonist in his city paper every day.

I was flabbergasted that the editor let that one through.

It's been a long while since I ponied up for a copy of the Sentinel, but in general Central Florida is a giant network of toll roads that lead to empty sub-divisions that are all approved by crooked local and state government and paid for by these developers, even though no one lives out there. They build it and hope the people and money will come. And then they don't and those sub-divisions fall to hell.
Also might be that they're adding toll lanes to I-4, and that construction is taking years and will continue to take years and only benefit the wealthy while the rest of I-4 falls to shit.

I like that the Toll Booth is the one offering payoffs, but it's the BUSINESS SUV that's handing over actual cash.

It's as if mere millionaires start to get nervous about continuing this class war game when there are trillionaires grinning at them over the table.
