The only way that could be more american would be if it was a shooting in a Walmart.

To incredibly marginal credit: They have since deleted their blatantly wrong tweet.

President Friday makes a strong appeal to Republican voters by promising to make all abortions illegal; although nobody is quite sure why all unwanted pregnancies are now required to be delivered in the White House kitchen

New Yorker: "The King of Clickbait" - A profile of 'Virologist' Emerson Spartz

The nightmare dystopia marches on. I am increasingly inclined to view clickbait as the mental equivalent of high-fructose corn syrup.

Well, uh, that's certainly one way you might choose to report a muslim woman winning a big contest.

Daily Mail wrote:Today her adopted hometown of Leeds is bursting with pride. It was ten years ago this July — the same year Nadiya and Abdal wed — that four bombers attacked London; three of them were raised in or near Leeds.

Also, she doesn't eat babies or drink the blood of innocents!

To me, reading that article, I was reminded of the TV rooms and the people who watch/participate in them from F451.

Vapid is the word most people would use to describe that kind of thing, but to me it's just... empty. You are walking husks, skin over void.

Ars Technica: $115 million verdict in Hulk Hogan sex-tape lawsuit could wipe out Gawker

On the one hand, $115M sure seems excessive. On the other, I can't say as I'm convinced by Gawker's argument that putting part of a leaked sex tape online was motivated by the people's right to know; I'm pretty sure it was motivated by the $11K they made from posting it.

Ironically, if they'd posted the part of the video that really harmed Hulk Hogan's career, the racist rant that wound up getting him fired, they would have had a much better case that it was newsworthy and in the public interest.

I expect the $115M award to go down on appeal. But if Gawker does end up going away forever...
