Trump back in Cali today. Protesters met him at the airport with anti-trump signs taped to the end of rakes.

You know, rakes aren't all that far from pitchforks...
Re: California Screamin: All the leaves are ash, and the skies are too
Infuriatingly informative twitter thread on the cause of the camp fire...
TL;DR a live 115,000 volt wire was hanging from a cast iron hook that hadn't been replaced in at least 97 years.
Then winds picked up and the hook broke.

How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.

To be clear to those reading this thread, that 97 year old problem is directly responsible for burning down my house, all of my belongings, my town, and killing 85 people.
And PG&E just declares bankruptcy whenever this shit happens to avoid paying the victims.
Replacing and maintaining power infrastructure way out in the middle of nowhere is expensive. So PG&E just waits till shit actually breaks to fix it, because it's cheaper that way.
Why is it cheaper that way? Because if something goes REALLY wrong and ends up burning down an ENTIRE FUCKING TOWN OF 26,800 PEOPLE, PG&E can just use the system to declare bankruptcy and pay a token fee.
Mark my words, with Climate Change getting worse, Paradise (and the fires that are happening RIGHT NOW) is just the fucking beginning of this shit for California and other heavily forested states.
PG&E is a perfect microcosm of what happens when you allow For-Profit companies to preside over life and death ... stuff. What they prioritize is right in the fucking name. It doesn't matter if it's Power, Healthcare, Food, Oil, or anything else. If they can save 100 bucks by killing 10 people through intentional negligence, they will.

This is where I once lived.
I've already linked the google map sat photos earlier in this thread.
This wasn't a "freak" occurrence. It wasn't a one time deal, an unfortunate tragedy that could not be avoided.
We built this system. We built it on purpose. Gordon Gecko said it best, and everyone believed him.
"Greed is good."
America is based off this idea, this philosophy. Reaganomics is literally this ideal writ large and injected into our collective psyche. The more rich people and corporations make money, the better off everyone will be!
NO.
IT'S WRONG. UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY. UNCHECKED GREED KILLS. NOT AS A BYPRODUCT BUT AS A FEATURE.

Re: California Screamin: All the leaves are ash, and the skies are too
My friends phones and my phone just blared a bunch of evac warnings. Looks like Paradise (and several other nearby towns) are threatened to burn again.
For the record, I'm not in Paradise anymore, I live nearby in the valley in Chico. So I'm not in right now immediate danger.
Probably this map auto-updates, so if you're clicking on this monday or later you might not see, but it's the current evac warnings.

"My hometown burns to the ground every year" feels like some insane curse. Sorry Fri.

I would imagine there aren't too many people still there as it is. :/

I was supposed to become the main character and defeat the giant evil space monster controlling Trump with a ragtag band of misfits, but I instead just sat around playing video games and looking at anime titties, so God is burning it down again.

Last I checked, the pop was up to about 1/4th the pre-fire level.
They've actually done a good bit of rebuilding, and of course the empty lots where houses used to be are now covered in undergrowth as nobody is maintaining them.
Re: California Screamin: All the leaves are ash, and the skies are too
hey, something to post about cali that isn't fire or water related! I wonder what it could --
watch my piece of shit congressional rep (district 1, the second largest district in California, only smaller than the big ass middle-desert district 8) Doug LaMalfa say a bunch of fucking stupid shit
man, I have hated this fuck forever, long before 2016
and I am not even remotely surprised that he's part of the 126

While we're talking about the recall, here's some good news (hopefully) about the uber/lyft bullshit that passed recently
