Abortion in Arizona set to be illegal in nearly all circumstances, state high court rules

This isn't surprising but it's pretty fucking dispiriting.

The good news is that I don't think it'll last the year; I believe this all but guarantees that the abortion access amendment will make it onto the November ballot and pass (and that that's probably good for Biden and Gallego's chances, too). But people are going to suffer and die in the meantime and that's fucking awful.

I do take a certain grim satisfaction in watching most of the motherfuckers who made this happen pretend it's not what they wanted. Doug Ducey, who didn't just appoint literally every judge on the majority in this ruling but expanded the court to do it, is insisting he never wanted to ban abortion entirely, and that's why he signed the 15-week abortion ban that explicitly stated if Roe was overturned then the total ban from 1864 would kick in. Kari Lake -- well, if you watch any of the late-night shows you probably already know about her claiming she never supported a ban that she enthusiastically supported.

Republicans keep claiming this isn't what they really want but of course it fucking is. (Or, it's what they claimed to want to get votes from the religious far-right but never thought was actually going to happen, which might actually be even worse.) When the rubber meets the road, of course they support it; Democrats tried to bring a repeal to the floor the day after the ruling and Republicans voted to adjourn.

Also they're suddenly very interested in changing the law so voters can't remove judges for some reason.

Oh shit this too: Grand jury indicts fake electors who falsely certified Donald Trump as 2020 winner in Arizona

The fake electors in Arizona are:

Tyler Bowyer, an executive with Turning Point USA and a committeeman for the Republican National Committee
Nancy Cottle, who chaired the Arizona Trump electors
State Sen. Jake Hoffman, R-Queen Creek
State Sen. Anthony Kern, R-Glendale
Jim Lamon, former U.S. Senate candidate
Robert Montgomery, former chair of the Cochise County Republican Committee
Samuel Moorhead, a former leader of the Gila County Republican Party
Loraine Pellegrino, the secretary of the Arizona Trump electors
Greg Safsten, former executive director of the Arizona Republican Party
Kelli Ward, former chair of the Arizona Republican Party
Michael Ward, her husband and a GOP activist

Ahahahahaha! Eat shit, fuckos.

EDIT: Even better.
Though their names are redacted, as are the charges against them, details in the indictment make clear that many top allies of Trump’s, who led a pressure campaign to change the election result, are also facing charges in Arizona. Those individuals appear to include Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, former chief of staff Mark Meadows, and others.

Trump himself is, according to the document, “unindicted coconspirator 1.”
