Having read a bunch of commentary on this from the First Nations and Native Americans, while it's obviously a result of colonialism and racism it's no longer reliant on them, patriarchy can keep this ball rolling all on its own. Doctors that would be horrified at the idea of working toward an ethnostate are perpetuating this because they think they know what's best for the women under their care. They justify playing stupid games with consent if they see a history of substance abuse and birth problems, but fail to see the fractally more difficult personal circumstances that make these things more likely. It's the flip side of wealthy white women being denied surgery because "but what if you meet a man that needs an army of babies for Jesus?"

It's an amorphous blob of unexamined stupid that needs to be attacked from a dozen directions at once, and of course the various groups that should be allied against it see each other as threats too. One thing that's needed is a "No Means No" campaign for medical practitioners, because obviously consent doesn't bloody count when you're being bullied while high on morphine for fuck's sake.

Today Dougie backpedaled on cuts to municipal funding after basically every mayor in the province banded together against him. That resulted in this gem:
