Some of you may have already seen this one, but Ben Carson is pretty sure that being Muslim should disqualify you from the Presidency

republicans are pro-Israel, and by extent pro-jewish. It's the only country that loves guns as much as they do.

Republican elected officials are mostly pro-Israel because they're like our only ally in the middle east and also the holy books known as "Left Behind" clearly state that our super awesome apocalypse needs Israel around to kick off

They are however simultaneously pandering to bigoted backwoods idiots and Alex Jones listeners who believe the Jews control the media via the Bilderberg group and George Soros via the lizard people or whatever the fuck

The only thing about the party that doesn't make sense to me is Lindsey Graham suddenly saying reasonable, decent things this year, what the fuck caused that?

NYT: Walker Out (allegedly)

He polled 0% recently. So much for his being one of the top candidates.

How did y'all miss that CTHULU, OURLORDANDSAVIOR DR. is a presidential candidate for the Communist Party? I think that's the best one I've seen.

I'm a bit surprised by that; I thought he really still had a pretty good shot.

I mean, nobody actually believes Carson's going to keep polling where he is, right?

FiveThirtyEight has a couple good analyses:

Scott Walker Blew His Last Chance: The Debate by Harry Enten notes that Walker's funds were drying up and that if he wanted to turn things around he needed to impress some donors in last week's debate, which he utterly failed to do.

Scott Walker May Have Been A Terrible Candidate — Or An Unlucky One by Nate Silver suggests that Walker's low polling was actually a result of him having appeal across broad conservative demographics -- that he was too many different groups' second choice and nobody's first.

Wonder if this is a coincidence or if Breathed whipped it up yesterday. Seeing as he's not publishing in the papers, he doesn't have to deal with the old two-week lead time.

Frank Rich has a lengthy piece on Trump's appeal. tl;dr he's a satirical candidate brought to life; he's Hal Philip Walker, he's Bob Roberts, he's Jay Billington Bulworth.

Trump lacks the comic chops of a Colbert or Paulsen, and, unlike the screenwriters of movies like Bulworth and Nashville, he is witless. His instrument of humor is the bitch-slap, blunt and cruel — Don Rickles dumbed down to the schoolyard. But when he hits a worthy target and exerts himself beyond his usual repertoire of lazy epithets (Loser! Dope! Slob!), he is funny, in part because his one-liners have the ring of truth. When Eric Cantor endorsed Jeb Bush, Trump asked, “Who wants the endorsement of a guy who lost in perhaps the greatest upset in the history of Congress?” When Trump’s presidential rivals attended a David and Charles Koch retreat, he tweeted: “I wish good luck to all of the Republican candidates that traveled to California to beg for money etc. from the Koch brothers. Puppets?” Twitter inspires his best material, as does Bush. Among Trump’s many Bush put-downs is this classic: “Why would you pay a man $1.3 million a year for a no-show job at Lehman Brothers — which, when it folded, almost took the world with it?” The exclamation point in Bush’s sad campaign logo, JEB!, has effectively been downsized to a semicolon by Trump’s insistence on affixing the modifier “low-energy” to his name every chance he gets.

(I made that exact observation about the Koch tweet upthread; I understand what he's talking about. Vile as Trump is, it's easy to see how people can root for him when he picks a target they don't like.)
