If you believe the unsourced and unconfirmed Facebook rumors, Trump being elected after the hateful shit he said on the campaign has already lead to at least 4-8 trans people committing suicide, with more attempting suicide. Does that count as doing something?

One thing I'm quickly learning is that I have to be really careful about how I say "Hey guys, I think this might be serious" because everybody seems to think of that as an endorsement.

God, is that what we've been doing? Accusing everybody who tried to warn us that everything's not all right of being enemy sympathizers, and then demanding to know why they lied to us? Fuck me, we're the Dumbfuckistanians.

Sorry, didn't mean it like that.

I'm a little raw, here.

Figured you probably didn't, but that is what a lot of people have been doing. Sorry for using you as a springboard for a rant. I probably shouldn't be pulling that shit right now.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but the first song I heard playing in public when I left the apartment the morning after was Bad Moon Rising.

I appreciate that the #1 item on Donald's to-do list is to alienate Congress.

Why is it again that it is so important for all of our liberal leaders to express how much we need to work with the very people who just spent months stonewalling any Supreme Court appointment from Barack Obama?

President Trump: How America Got It So Wrong
Back then, I thought Trump had a real chance at the presidency. But later I made the same mistake most every other reporter did. I listened to polls and media outlets, instead of people. I thought Trump's maladroit and ridiculous general-election campaign, in which he went back on virtually every major primary-season promise while being revealed through seemingly hourly scandals as one of the world's most corrupt and personally repulsive individuals, would do him in. He would lose and lose huge, ending up a footnote to history, having served no purpose beyond the destruction of the Republican Party. Conventional wisdom said so, and wasn't conventional wisdom always right?

Not quite. We journalists made the same mistake the Republicans made, the same mistake the Democrats made. We were too sure of our own influence, too lazy to bother hearing things firsthand, and too in love with ourselves to imagine that so many people could hate and distrust us as much as they apparently do.

I had the thought this afternoon that Trump is basically the end result and living embodiment of American Exceptionalism.

It's okay guys we can still fix this.

I think we just have to reboot the universe switch places with the baby boomers. I mean, it's not like it could get any worse.

I'm actually really sympathetic to the Juggalos on this one, though they've missed their window.

Kinda? Which is weird, but saying "I can see their point" in regards to juggalos is far down the list of things I didn't expect this year. If you'd told me a year ago that juggalos would march on Washington I wouldn't have been incredulous. If you told me that I'd be completely okay with it I'd think you were nuts. And if you told me about everything else that was gonna happen I'd be kind of confused and annoyed that you started with the juggalo thing. "I have some good news and some bad news about 2016..." and then I hear that creepy clowns are both the good news and the bad news and also David Bowie went back to his home planet and took the bees with him.

A(n even more) sobering thought this afternoon.

Republicans are only a handful of state legislatures away from having enough to amend the Constitution.
