Looks like Franco-Trump Marine Le Pen is going on to France's general election against centrist Emmanuel Macron.

I know, it ain't over til it's over, but I'm still going to be goolging how to say "dude, hold my beer" in French.

"Tiens ma bière!"

Hopefully the first round will have diluted the sane vote, and it'll concentrate again for the 1v1, but yeah, at this point and given recent history, it's anyone's guess.

The Telegraph wrote:In a seismic shift in French politics, final results put Mr Macron, an independent centrist, top on 23.75 per cent, with Ms Le Pen, the far-Right Front National leader, just behind on 21.53 per cent.

Conservative François Fillon, dubbed the "Thatcherite" candidate, was eliminated on 19.91 per cent, with revolutionary Leftist Jean-Luc Mélenchon coming fourth on on 19.64 percent, the Interior Ministry said.

That'd be French Hillary, French Trump, French Jeb, and French Bernie, respectively, approximately. And that still only gets us to about 85% of the vote.

I'm not even going to try to read the tea leaves. I know a damn sight more about American electoral politics than French electoral politics, and I was wrong about basically everything in the 2016 presidential race except that Bernie wasn't going to get the nomination.

On the one hand, France has had plenty of time to see what happened in the UK and the US and know that a fascist victory is something that can definitely happen; not a dream, not a hoax, not an imaginary story. On the other...a banker? A fucking investment banker? Are you goddamn kidding me right now? Faced with a series of elections where populist backlash against the financial class has led to people siding with fascists over neoliberals, you figured hey, I've got an idea on how to beat this fascist who's riding a populist backlash against the financial class: let's nominate an investment banker?

NYT longform piece on Comey, the FBI, and the election.

It's both a defence and an indictment, but also neither. It does answer the question of why nothing was said about Russia earlier on (partially because Obama told them not to, but also because it was early in the investigation).

As suspected, a great deal of what everyone said and did on both sides was shaped by the expectation that Hillary would win.

So, not only does the Resolute Desk actually have a Big Red Button, but The Bastard has it configured to summon a butler to bring him a Coke.

But remember, kids. It was Obama who degraded the dignity of the office by putting his feet on the desk.

I am just so completely 1000% certain Trump's big red coke button is identical to and directly next to the ol' "launch all nukes" button.

I kind of figured one of his handlers told him it was a nuke button and he thinks someone's just bringing him a Coke to help him relax after glassing another area in North Korea.

Well this should surprise approximately no one:

Reuters: Trump confesses he thought being president would be easy

"I loved my previous life. I had so many things going," Trump told Reuters in an interview. "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."

Mexican Coke is legit delicious, and most supermarkets carry it here. The cane sugar makes it smooth with no sticky mouth aftertaste. Comes in a glass bottle too.

Well it's weird calling it "mexican coke" since that's the recipe everywhere else on earth

it's -american- coke that's the weird one

It's called Mexican coke here in the US because it's imported from Mexico, with an "Hecho en Mexico" label on it. It then has an American nutrition facts sticker slapped on top.

I don't feel like digging up the guns thread and this is relevant to Fuckface von Clownstick (also: a fair point.)

Mrs. Ideal and I just saw that pro-Trump 100 days commercial. I heard about it, but I never expected to see it on fucking MSNBC. Like, right in the middle of The 11th Hour.

Like, what the fuck, y'know?

So much going on, but I'm on a phone and can't really break things down at length.

Nice to see Trump and his party failing and flailing. Nice to see the Democrats unified and acting as a real opposition party (and I sure wish they'd had this much backbone in '02 and' 03).

Nice to see Sanders consistently polling as the most popular politician in America. But he really *does* need to listen to criticisms about not doing enough to appeal to women and minorities and take them to heart. Still and all, as far out as we are he seems like the guy to beat in '20, and I sure hope he runs again.
