http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ ... s_homepageThe new survey puts Christie in third place — with the support of 13 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents — behind Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) with 20 percent and former Florida governor Jeb Bush at 18 percent. The rest of the scattered pack includes Sens. Ted Cruz (Tex.), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.), who are at 12, 11 and 10 percent, respectively.
Ha! Is that really the best you guys can put together? A list that includes a third Bush, three divisive ultra conservative tea partiers who have no shot in a general election, and your token minority that has no shot of making it through the primary?
ooooooh scary!

Re: The Grand Olde Party will self-consume
Great little article going into why a Christie candidacy is probably tits-up, even if he's totally innocent.
Josh Marshall wrote:So Christie has to recruit a campaign (the pros, the money people, the powerbrokers) as someone with net negative national standing and quite likely with polls that are getting worse over the course of the year.
But even that's actually not the worst of it. He has to build that campaign, build and consolidate that national standing, while at any moment along the way, a piece of evidence or accuser might surface that makes him totally radioactive politically and may even force him to resign as governor.
Now, to be clear, maybe Christie's innocent. And if he's innocent he knows that there can't be any smoking gun. Perhaps some of his closest associates have some way besides trust of having equal certainty. Maybe.
But none of the other people Christie has to court can. So for them, it's a clear and real risk that will probably hang over the prospect of a Christie presidential candidacy through 2014 and perhaps beyond.

Do these people not have staff around whose job it is to say, uh, sir, that didn't exactly come out the way you it sounds in your head?

A Jacobin Magazine writer discusses the pedigree of the modern Tea Party
Really interesting stuff and some neat citations.
Devolves into a bit of screed at the end when he talks about the electoral system, but I mean, it is Jacobin. And even then, I'd say it's more embellishment than actually being wrong. Overall it's a great dismantling of the blame game that's been played for some time now where bogeyman Southerners are used a salve by the rest of the country who can often be just as bad. Reminds me of MLK saying the most virulent racism he ever encountered was in northern suburbs.
This graph is also particularly terrifying, though that has little to do with the parts cited in the article:

Beautiful.
this is the real first page of a real book by a real Fox News host
this is like a conservative person’s stereotype of a liberal stereotype of a conservative person
the cool thing about this is that todd starnes is obviously trying to cultivate a folksy, good old boy image, when he looks exactly like every dime a dozen, former college republican wiener in DC

It's incredible how a man can now do the "i was born in much simpler and more traditional times" spiel when he's fucking forty years old

Well, it says "PC Police", so he's clearly just stepped out of 1994.
