This raises an interesting point. Given that the swastika is counterclockwise, which is very explicitly the non-Nazi version, is the criticism fair?

I mean if it were just the local chapter of a redneck militia doing it backwards, I'd say that was obviously a transparent attempt to use a Nazi swastika, or even just idiots not realizing which direction the swastika they love goes. But I'd like to give a company peddling a dull utility product the benefit of the doubt here that they're probably not trying to build an alt-right userbase.

The inclusion of version of a Getty Images photo of a bearded, flannel-wearing man, tinted with a blue and orange hue, prompted one reader to write to the magazine: "Your lack of basic journalistic ethics in both the manner in which you 'reported' this uncredited nonsense, and the slanderous, unnecessary use of my picture without permission demands a response, and I am, of course, pursuing legal action."

But it wasn't actually him.

Last night I thought I saw an old high school buddy of mine as I was leaving a coffee shop. I did kind of a double-take and then that thing where you sort of confusedly squint at somebody trying to figure out if you're supposed to recognize them; he looked back at me in much the same fashion; I decided it wasn't him and left.

On the way to my car I thought, "Maybe it really was him, and I just didn't recognize him behind his beard, and he didn't recognize me behind my beard." And then I thought "Nah," thought of the "all hipsters look alike" story, and chuckled to myself.

(On the one hand, I don't think of myself as a hipster. On the other, here's a thread full of my lengthy and digressive thoughts on coldbrew coffee.)

Out of curiosity I did a quick search for my friend later on, to see what he looks like now. Nope, wasn't him.
