Dat headline.
The way the police reported it, that they "seized 58 Terabytes of data related to child porn" is leading enough on its own, but is at least factually correct. I don't want to think that 58TB of CP actually exists out there, and refuse to believe one person would have that much.

There isn't really any ambiguity in that headline. So I wouldn't say it's "leading"; it's a lie. Obviously I'm sharing for the comment rather then the dubious Fox headline.
Sadly, I can easily believe that 58 terabytes of child porn does exist. Though obviously it would be bananas if a single person somehow accumulated that much (not that, say, 58 gigabytes wouldn't be horrifying enough).

I'm not ready to look into the size of various porn sites for comparison, but 58TB seems like a truly incredible amount of child porn. Like, I literally cannot find it credible for one person to have that much of any kind of data.

I wonder if you could get a very rough estimate how much child porn based on the suspected % of web traffic which is porn, plus the suspected % of traffic which is child porn. There's probably at least vague guesses in some law enforcement databases.
Then again, I don't actually want to know the answer to that question.

Given that the only kind of non-science data that'll put any kind of dent in a terabyte is video, we can probably assume 'thing' and 'data related to thing' are functionally equivalent here. This is one of those times when the police are using precise, clinical language to minimise the reality they're describing.
Also dozens of TB means commercial grade file server gear. No-one builds that kind of operation as a hobby, it would have to be paying for itself somehow.

You can easily have hundreds of terabytes of video data
If you're running a production studio.

I normally describe him as a "fucking asshole", but that works too.

Apparently, all 2.3 million prisoners incarcerated in US prisons will be going on strike for 19 days starting today.

On Tuesday, America’s vast army of incarcerated men and women – at 2.3m of them they form by far the largest imprisoned population in the world – will brace itself for what has the potential to be the largest prison strike in US history.
Nineteen days of peaceful protest are planned across the nation, organised largely by prisoners themselves.
The strike is being spearheaded by incarcerated members of Jailhouse Lawyers Speak, a group of prisoners providing mutual help and legal training to other inmates. A few days ago they released an anonymous statement setting out their reasons for calling a protest that carries the risk of substantial penal retaliation.

The fact that felons cannot vote is absurd. American prisons in general are horrific.
I hope the strike gets results. It won't, of course, but what else can they do? It's not like a felon can vote to change things.

A couple years ago Colorado had on the ballot "is it okay for felons to be slaves?" and the state voted that yes, it is.
I doubt they'll garner much sympathy.

At the end of the day, prisons are run under the consent of the prisoners. Not to say it's their fault or something, the alternative is terrifying, but it is there. If nothing else, I hope this illuminates that fact for more people.

If that seems crazy, I take it you're also unaware of one of my favorite shows.

Weird that they keep giving that convicted felon show and book deals and everything.
