Look, we joke around, but we're all voting for Bernie, right?

Because if people are actually voting for Warren I might as well go Williamson

Loving the Vin Diesel tat. Also like, yeah in a primary I will, if she gets the nom though, I'll do what I did last time and vote for her while white people throw the election away.

The Arizona primary isn't until March 17th. At this point in 2007 I was backing John Edwards. At this point in 2003, the frontrunner was Howard Dean, and John Kerry was polling in fifth place.

Between Sanders and Warren, I'll vote for whichever one has a better shot at the nomination. Polls a month ago said that was Sanders. Polls today say it's Warren. A lot of shit is going to happen in the next four months, and *then* people are going to start voting. And then I vote six weeks after that.

It's possible that they both get knocked out early and the race ends up looking a lot different than it does right now, in which case I'll have to decide on somebody else (probably whoever looks like they can beat Biden; if he's out of the race too, well, I don't have a whole flow chart worked out here; I'll figure it out if I have to). Hell, it's possible that the race is over before it gets to Arizona -- 2008 and 2016 were still competitive by the time our primary rolled around, but 2000 and 2004 weren't.

Depends on how you define "voluntarily". If the FSF were to threaten to pull funding for GNU, I think that might do it.

The FSF has a rather tepid notice up that it's evaluating what its relationship with GNU will be going forward. They're asking for comments via email.

Really I think this is going to depend a lot more on what the FSF's biggest donors have to say than any random emails they get. But if they get a lot of emails pressuring them to quit supporting GNU if RMS doesn't step down, that could make a difference.

Homemade caltrops and property damage. I'm relieved that this was as far as it went.

The Canadian Legion has become an organization of posers with no-military history, which informally throws up barriers to admittance to legitimate veterans. Many legitimate veterans who have joined the Legion left, saying they felt uncomfortable and/or were "the token military guy" at their branch.

There's also been instances in the past where real veterans were protesting over issues of pensions or other forms of being shafted by Veterans Affairs, were not supported by the Legion, and then condescendingly told that they just didn't understand the Legion or it's work.

Obviously you can still find some vets who will defend the Legion, but IMO, fuck 'em. Shit like this is no surprise at all.

This reminds me though. I want to contact Canadian Veterans Advocacy (a newer all-veteran org, which seems to be the *actual* functioning veteran's support charity), to see what I can do as an alternative to buying Legion poppies.

EDIT: The Legion supported the absolutely disgraceful Harper-era policy (since rolled back by Trudeau, but also still a complete fucking mess), which actually removed military pensions entirely in favour of one lump-sum payment. Like I said, fuck the Legion.

EDIT 2: Hmmm... CVA looks like they stopped their work once the rollback went through. Hoo boy, now I really have no idea where to go looking. Wish I was still in contact with the half-dozen vets/servicecritters I knew back in university. :/

Civil War it is then.

I'm not sure how closely any of you have followed what's going on in Bolivia, but western coverage has been pretty fucking shameful. You might've hoped the days of the NYT BBC and everyone in between lauding Pinochet and slandering Allende were gone, but nope.

The most crucial thing I've seen omitted is that two hours before he fled the country, Morales did offer a runoff with OAS observers. Also, another is that the "fraud" where the vote counting stopped for a day, only to see Morales numbers shoot up, is actually entirely expected and normal. The daylong pause was actually an established thing rather than being a weird out-of-the-ordinary event, and late voting trends socialist because it takes longer for the returns from the rural indigenous interior to come in.

Not that Morales hasn't made serious mistakes and even most left-wing sources agree there was some non-zero amount of fraud going on, but the narrative of him just being another South American El Presidente hellbent on becoming dictator-for-life has turned out to be a pretty broad exaggeration. And again, he did finally concede to offer a runoff with outside observers (and the OAS is largely funded by Brazil and the US, even).

More importantly, whatever happened before in no way justifies the coup which followed (and it is a coup now, absolutely) with power now seized on by an unelected nutjob who thinks indigenous Bolivians are people of Satan and quite literally wants to burn them alive.

CONTEXT EDIT: It's also very much worth noting that MAS still holds clear majorities in both of Bolivia's legislatures. When the above tweet says "largest party" they mean it. So we're talking about an insurgent group of wealthy terrorists looking to oust the clear and legitimate ruling political party, Morales or no, and get to murdering or even genociding a majority of Bolivians.

Some folks have also theorized that the coup was a way for foreign nations to seize Bolivia's lithium , since Morales was going to nationalize their assets before he was ousted.
