I'm feeling so fucking... betrayed? Yeah, let's go with betrayed. With a side of "ready to start that commune the IRC channel's been mentioning on and off"

Can we all agree in advance that if the Dems lose to Trump this year, we will forever refer to it was the time they got KLOBBERED?

Regardless of the fact that of course it will anyway, the career of anyone who at this point wants to be associated with the Biden campaign should be considered a joke.

...y'all know she's not the only person on the list, right?

This isn't "BIDEN PICKS KLOBUCHAR." We're not there yet. That stuff I said about how nobody announces a running-mate in May? It's still May. It hasn't been two months yet; it only feels like it has. We're still on "Biden is probably going to make a terrible choice, but it might not be that specific terrible choice."

I don't know enough about Val Demings to make a call on whether she'd be better or worse -- "social worker" sounds like better; "police chief" sounds like worse, and I have to admit "Florida" raises some red flags.

Those appear to be the only two names confirmed as being vetted at this point, but I'd be surprised if they're the only two who are being.

I don't know who he's going to choose. I'm reasonably confident it's going to be somebody I don't like, but I don't know which person I don't like. (Though if I were to take a wild guess? I'm still guessing Harris.)

See the thing of it is that anyone who wants to be a part of his campaign and gets chosen for it will be bad and should not be liked based on those very qualifications alone.

It ultimately doesn't matter, because he's going to lose. Just different flavors of fuckup.

I honestly read this the first time around as "different flavours of ketchup".

Insofar as we're resigned to supporting Biden anyway (and I guess I am, and I'm sick to my stomach about it), we're already resigned to the notion that we're choosing the racist, senile groper who's not as bad as the other racist, senile groper.

Even if you think every possible choice is, by definition, a bad one (and I don't; I acknowledge Warren and Abrams are flawed, but I'd still put them on the "good" side of the scale), that doesn't mean that they're all equally bad.

Have you ever tried qualifying a statement, like with a "probably" or a "the way I see it" or a "my guess is" or "if this is anything like the last time" or like that? I like qualifiers. They help me keep perspective.

Last night, I had a conversation with a close friend which changed my mind on Biden 100%, and significantly increased my chances of surviving the next couple of years.

The basic point he impressed upon me was that participating in broken electoral politics, and participating in direct action are not mutually exclusive.

And the Democratic candidate is a lot more likely to surrender in the face of public pressure than the Republican incumbent.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I am. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the prospect of voting for Biden makes me nauseous, but there's really no question that he's likelier to inch toward policies I favor than Trump is.

And he passes the basic fucking competence test of wearing a mask in public during a global pandemic. That's a very, very low bar to clear, but he's the only viable candidate in the race who clears it.

Inching towards policies we favor won't cut it. We need to be willing to take direct action to ensure things get better where our current electoral politics utterly fail us.
