Line of the day:

Joshua Keating wrote:Today’s votes: The House of Commons saw its first tied vote in 39 years, when MPs voted 310–310 on a motion to hold a new round of “indicative votes” on alternative Brexit models. House Speaker John Bercow broke the tie by voting no. Parliament has already held two rounds of these indicative votes, and no option has been able to win a majority. Because this is Brexit, there’s still a decent chance the indicative votes could happen next week.

My first thought was that this sounds like a Michael Palin newscast on Flying Circus, but then I thought no, it's more like narration in a Douglas Adams novel.

The MPs hung up the votes in much the same way that effective leaders don't

The biggest mistake of May's entire tenure.

what the fuck is it with people feeling sorry for the people in power who oppress them and destroy their lives, oftentimes literally in the form of policies leading to deaths/murder

One death is a tragedy, etc.

And of course these days journalists the world over seem to bend over ass-backwards to put leaders who'd shoot them as soon as look at them in a positive light. So that only works to exaggerate the effect of regular people just being some statistic.

Oh and the EU election results have turned in a farcical disaster, with Farage's Brexit party winning a significant plurality (though far from a majority) of EU seats. The Liberal Dems have come up second, being the only party to unambiguously oppose Brexit.

On the positive side, the Tories have had their worst-ever election result in any national contest, even beating the historic wipeout they suffered in 1832. *cackling*

I just wish it was because people realised they were evil, and not a protest vote against them failing to fuck up the country fast enough.

The Tories have resigned, effective June 7th. They all collectively broke down in tears.

So, barring a wild upset, it looks like Barney Rubble's going to be Britain's next PM?

Hoo boy...

So, as I understand the situation right now:

The government's majority is down to a single seat.

Johnson is trying to scuttle the Irish backstop.

Corbyn is threatening a confidence vote, but he's still incompetent.

The Lib Dems have picked up seats in local elections because Labour hasn't staked out an anti-Brexit stance (see "Corbyn is incompetent").

A no-deal Brexit seems like the likeliest outcome at this point, because doing nothing is a lot easier than doing something. But it's still a volatile and unpredictable situation, and any number of outcomes are possible.

I sold a bunch of funds today because even if Janet Yellen is correct that the inverted yield curve is no big deal (lol), there's no way they work this shit out before Oct. 31, right?

Lib Dems now don't want to pair with Labour to stop Brexit because the Lib Dems are fucking Starscream.
