the candle thing will never cease to be the most amazing thing to me

If we are destined to be infected with Covid forever like Influenza, then the periodic uptick in negative candle reviews will be the one and only upside

I miss Drew Toothpaste's 'Fuck the Future' podcast but I can see how being the voice of Eeyore would lose its appeal as basically the entire Anglosphere abandons hope. In positive news he's not many patrons away from starting a Worst Things For Sale video channel.

So, apparently, anti-vaxxer Germans are fleeing to Paraguay.

Don't look at me. This shit just writes itself.

China's Tianjin testing all 14 million residents after Omicron found

Only 20~ cases, but because China has managed to avoid any major Omicron outbreaks so far (recent large outbreaks were all Delta), they're going all-out to contain this one.

The latest hot anti-vaxxer trend is drinking your own piss.

The guy behind this one is also the leader of the self-titled "Vaccine Police"

Crosspost with "HOW WAS YOUR DAY?" I guess, but...

I got a message from the kids school that indoor masking will go from mandatory to just highly recommended, citing very low positive case rates. Starting in a couple weeks. This is on top of California doing the same thing with pretty much all businesses for pretty much the same reason. It already looks like I'm the only one masking at work.

And... I don't know. I watch the numbers of cases and deaths and they do seem to be going down. But I can't help but think about how my mom got sick soon after the last time we relaxed things. It's been months, but she's still having trouble smelling things.

I'd love for Covid to be over... but I'm still not feeling like I can think as clearly, and I'm constantly exhausted... And I only spent noticeable amounts of time with people who had both shots plus booster, and I didn't feel sick until the exhaustion started, weeks after I would have been exposed. Long covid is likely to fuck our society hard, and the people who are supposed to care/prevent it are telling people "Fuck it, you'll be fine."

Every time mask mandates have been lifted or relaxed, there's been a new, worse, wave a couple weeks later, so...

This, this this this this.

I don't know if you folks have seen this or not before, but Covid's on the rise again across the EU, due to the even higher transmissibility of the B2 and the relaxing of restrictions. Previews of coming attractions.

Image

Meanwhile, you may have seen the news about how bad things are in Hong Kong, well, that might just be the tip of the iceberg there.

Sinovax has basically zero effectiveness against Omicron and the ongoing game of Covid whack-a-mole containment which has been on for the past two months in mainland China is falling apart. Outbreaks are getting larger and more stubborn, even with the utterly draconian PRC lockdown measures. Also, for some reason China has vaccinated most children... but not the elderly?! I'd like to think that's not a deliberate setup for a potential mass cull, even with my low opinion of the CPC, but it's certainly an odd decision. China's also woefully short of therapeutics and have nothing close to enough hospital spaces for an event of that scale (though they have shown an ability to build really fast, I guess).

Omicron ripping through a population of over a billion effectively-unvaccinated people, is uh... well, let's just hope Mr. Bones was wrong about the length of his wild ride.

Regardless, don't put your masks away just yet.

Talking about finding a summer school for kiddo, grandma told me that it's all about to blow over, we're in the last stages of this whole thing

which is what she said right before omicron

and delta

"It" is over. "It" isn't covid though, "it" is any sort of governmental support and attempts at protecting people from death and disability.

Has anyone in the U.S. even heard about someone who received the free covid tests from January?
