My (former) school system had a school board meeting yesterday to announce their plans for the upcoming school year. Their plan:
- Be doing a hybrid, half online, half in person plan. Half the students will be in school Monday and Tuesday, then online Thursday and Friday, and vice versa for the other half.
- Teachers and staff will not be provided any PPE or cleaning supplies. Custodial staff will receive "approved cleaning materials".
- No student or staff screening before entering the school.
- No masks "required", just recommended.
- Classrooms must be "socially distanced". (I taught in 4 classrooms over the years. Even if I had a third of the students in each class, only ONE of the classrooms would have enough space for the required distance between students)
- There will be certain high school classes that CANNOT be done online, so students in those classes will be in school for those classes. These classes have not been determined yet. Student schedules will be locked next week.
- Salary for staff frozen, despite the contract had everyone getting a small raise.
- There will be no plans made about what to do if an outbreak happens at a school.

They claimed that these conclusions were reached with the cooperation of teachers and staff... but they only sent out the surveys 2 hours before the meeting.

Man, talk about dodging a bullet.

This is making the rounds as some justifiable outrage, but I'm confused... isn't Ireland an EU member state? I thought US citizens were barred from the EU for the time being?

Image

All the purportedly Irish comments I've seen on this are "Our government is a shower of cunts who want US tourism dollars", which okay, sure, but wouldn't flouting such a big EU rule get Ireland in trouble with the other member states?

Unless maybe this guy is in Northern Ireland?

Or they're flying to Belfast and driving wherever from there. The border's mostly just a line on a map these days. For now.

According to the US Embassy in Ireland, dated July 14, 2020:

There are no restrictions on flights from the United States to Ireland although the number of available flights is significantly diminished.

Visitors are asked to self-isolate for 14 days and complete a form giving the address where they will be staying. It's a criminal offence to lie on the form, but as far as I can tell it's not a criminal offence to fail to self-isolate; the form is just so they can contact you when they discover that someone else on your flight had COVID. Nobody's really going to self-isolate on a holiday.

I'm hoping a lot of hospitals continue sending it to the CDC anyway.

Also, being told not to send the data to the CDC is very different from being told to withhold the data from the actual patients.

Yep. I finally actually got my call for my (negative, as expected) results about ten minutes ago. It's been a pain in the ass because I am understandably not allowed to return to work until my test results came in, and we never expected it to take this long. Luckily I had some emergency and comp time built up from volunteering during days when we were closed to do mail work, so it doesn't affect my time off too much, but I wasn't planning to take over a week off here.

the final iteration of that map will require every single person in each county to be dead to show red, otherwise light blue

new hilarious wrinkle is i cannot return to work without my results “in writing” in some fashion and when they called me i asked if they could also email or text me my results and they said no but they would be available on the patient web portal “soon”

they are of course still not there. bright side is my lady finally got her results call today. three days after me. we were tested at exactly the same time.
