My (former) school system had a school board meeting yesterday to announce their plans for the upcoming school year. Their plan:
- Be doing a hybrid, half online, half in person plan. Half the students will be in school Monday and Tuesday, then online Thursday and Friday, and vice versa for the other half.
- Teachers and staff will not be provided any PPE or cleaning supplies. Custodial staff will receive "approved cleaning materials".
- No student or staff screening before entering the school.
- No masks "required", just recommended.
- Classrooms must be "socially distanced". (I taught in 4 classrooms over the years. Even if I had a third of the students in each class, only ONE of the classrooms would have enough space for the required distance between students)
- There will be certain high school classes that CANNOT be done online, so students in those classes will be in school for those classes. These classes have not been determined yet. Student schedules will be locked next week.
- Salary for staff frozen, despite the contract had everyone getting a small raise.
- There will be no plans made about what to do if an outbreak happens at a school.
They claimed that these conclusions were reached with the cooperation of teachers and staff... but they only sent out the surveys 2 hours before the meeting.
Man, talk about dodging a bullet.
