X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
There's a few out there. I use the oddly named gooncam for the gifs i make.

I also hear that he sings a silvery song.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
(Note: I start making gifs out of this mission after a few posts. Let me know if it slows anything down.)
Alright so, I played through our first splash - a small, four-person shipment craft shot down over mutant territory - using my video card's recording software, which didn't work. I switched over to Bandicam, and that's been working just peachy.
The faction belonged to the Humanists, whose motives and general dealeo I won't know till I get the gals in the lab to research.
Stuff that went down out there:
I got a bunch of "credit chips" from the Humanists I killed, which I can sell for... maybe we use credits? I guess money is credits in this future.
I sell the money for money.
One thing I really, really love about this mod is that most major items, like ships and weapons and armor, can be built, from various shit you plunder. It adds a cool collection element to the game. Money itself is mostly for buildings and black market stuff.
I set the timer to max and start passing days till everyone's healed up.
But...
Humanists begin a... "pogrom," in the mutant city of Witchhaven. That's fancy talk for "ethnic cleansing," kids!
Not enough time to wait for anyone to get out of sick bay, so we load up the #FinalFighter and set the fuck sail.
Night mission. Rough.
Zara takes point, heading southeast.
Shots coming in from the west.
And another!
Wooo weee~
All misses. Zara puts his back against a nearby building, out of range.
...Maybe scouting first would be a good idea.
The as-of-yet-unnamed Parrot drops down through the bay, glancing around. Civilian to the north, and something a little more threatening to the northeast.
Back on the ship, Mazian, Mongrel, and Ziiro situate themselves in the crow's nest. Grath, unfortunately, turns out not to be strong enough for his weapon, so he slings a medical bag over his shoulder and follows.
If I can get him to level up, he should be able to carry something more threatening. For now, medic!
Out front, Francios moves down the ramp and spies Parrot's target: the um, blue SS officer from Wolfenstein 3D.
Starting to get the feeling these guys are Nazis.
His spear flies true.

Stuff that went down out there:
- Discovered that Mazian's bow and arrow is fucking incredible. It ARCS, which is an original X-Com first for me, and it seems to get kills very easily at this point in the game.
- Frocto got wounded. His chainsaw is immensely satisfying, but getting close is hard. I'm thinking of using smoke grenades to close the gap.
- Geo got wounded. Took some damage trying to plug a fella with a blunderbuss.
- Defenestration got wounded. He stabbed a dude to death and it was brutal.
- Stush got set on fire, so he's wounded. Took it like a champ though!

Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
It's a solid hit, but not enough to drop him.
Considering how savage the bow and arrow is, I'm a little bit surprised the spear isn't dealing more damage!
Beatette makes a beatline™ into the nearby building, hoping to get within melee range for next turn.
(See the door on the right)
Up in the crow's nest, Ziiro pokes his head out. Nothing out front.
Looks clear.
Smiler takes up position next to Francios, hoping to finish off the SS blueshirt.
First shot shreds the fence.
(white spots are the buckshot impact points)
Ugh.
Still not sure if chain-link fences count as a wall, since you can see right through them. Pretty sure there's like a 50/50 chance your shot can go right on through.
Fuuuu~uuck.
Smiler and Francios pull back for cover.
Enemy turn begins.
SHIT SOMEONE'S IN THAT BUILDING
He spies Beatette through the open door.
SHOTS FIRED
Beat takes a glancing hit.
The ship also takes a few potshots from the distant northeast. No hits.
Everything seems pretty tame, all considered. First turns are usually when we see some pretty insane
IS THAT A FUCKING MISSILE INSIDE THE HOUSE
GOOD LORD

This reminds me of how in high school, when a friend of mine and I got brobdingnagian into the original X-Com, he started drawing those skull explosions everywhere (textbooks, desks, you know).

Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
man it's ridiculous how you can make those missiles fly around the entire map before falling straight into an alien's face.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Shit.
The roof gives out above Beatette, showering her with debris as fire pours thought the staircase. The ceiling above absorbed the brunt of the blast, looks like. You lucky briney bitch!
Zara, down at the bottom, rounds the corner and spies two SS troopers coming out of the dark, aiming to finish off Beatette.
He takes aim with his pirate cannon and fires.
Hitting the wall.
:/
Back on the #FinalFighter, Francios steps out and heaves another javelin at the SS from behind the chain-link fence, now also closing in on Beatette.
It hits! And he lives.
Smiler follows up with a brutal shotgun blast to the spine
Zara withdraws and loads another cannonball.
Over in the crow's nest, Ziiro and Mongrel take shots at a brownshirt at ground level they spied trying to kill a mutant civilian.
Mongrel gets a few hits with his pistol (sorry - your gal's not strong enough yet to carry a blunderbuss. Gotta level ya)
In a screencap I lost, Beat bolted into the building across from him and chainsawed the dude who shot him. He puts his back to the wall, bracing for the SS soldiers down the alley.
Making progress, just gotta get a bit closer.
Enemy turn begins.
GOOD LORD
SMILER HIT THE DECK
Rocket slams into the hull of the ship.
Our turn.
Holy shit.
Smiler lives.
I... wow.
He takes only 10 damage. No fatal wounds, no armor damage, no significant morale drop.
Stone cold.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Dang, I didn't expect miracles, what with stone age weapons and all, but you'd think a javelin has enough mass to at least poke out of a Nazi's back a little bit.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Oh it absolutely sucks, no doubt. I'm surprised too.
Well, after this mission I get some new toys, so lemme know what you want instead then.

Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
The starting weapons aren't too bad at killing, the problem is the accuracy.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
(Trying Camtasia's gif-making option out. Lemme know if this slows things down.)
Beatette turns the corner, chainsaw revved, pincering the two SS soldiers in the dark with Zara.
SAWS THROUGH ONE DUDE AND INTO THE OTHER
I have never seen that shit before.
Out of curiosity, Zara checks the corpse. Assault rifle and modern grenades.
Francios struts west to help out the Crows Nest Krew with the one guy they can't seem to hit.
He puts his back to the nearby fence, his target in sight for next turn.
Up in the crow's nest, Ziiro, Mongrel, and Mazian exchange fire with a brownshirt on a nearby rooftop.
No hits on either side.
Smiler moves forward a few steps and WHOA SHIT THE ROCKET GUY IS AT OUR DROPSHIP DOOR
The nightmare is over.

Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Zara and Beatette move east, hugging the boundary to stay undetected.
Aaand no such luck. A shot fires out of the dark, hitting Beatette as he runs out of TUs.
Back by the ship, the crow's nest gears up to take down that guy on the roof.
Ziiro lines up a high-TU aimed shot.
Holy hell that was a bad shot.
Someone further north fires back.
Mazian draws back his bow.
Beautiful.
Earlier, during the enemy's turn, this shit happened when a snakewoman civilian slithered by the door to that building:
This cast-iron valkyrie absorbed a half dozen hits from an assault rifle and just slithered off, right as rain. Gal's got gumption.
Francios, his back to the fence, can now see the guy through the open door on the ground level.
He lets loose.
WHAM, direct hit. Zero damage.
Welp.
Enemy turn.
Whoa, what the hell's that? Some kinda green canister grenade flies out of the dark and lands on the ground. Pretty sure that was intended for the crow's nest.
Mazian also takes a round in the back from the building to the northeast as fire pings the side of the ship.
SHIT
BEATETTE IS DOWN
I'll have to get Grath out there for a revive.
Whoever that is taking reaction shots, they're closer than I thought.
Uuuuuuuhhhh ohhhhhhhh
The grenade blows at Ziiro's feet, scattering him to pieces. Mazian takes the blast to the side of the face and falls down the staircase, at Mongrel and Grath's feet.
He might have a chance.
OUR TURN
Can't say the same for Beatette.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
It's BAD.
Grath shakes off the shock and pulls Mazian's body over his shoulder, starting down to the deck of the ship.
He lays Mazian down beside the plunder pile and starts treatment. 3 mortal wounds, all patched up.
Mongrel follows, holstering his pistol and picking up a small medpack to assist. He pumps Mazian full of stimulants and pain killers, hoping to revive him.
Mongrel is kinda hazy on what does what, but he figures medical science is mostly about throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.
(Fairly sure stimulants restore energy and revive the unconscious, while pain killers restoreeeee TUs? Morale maybe?)
Smiler, meanwhile, spies a brownshirt west of Zara's position, and pegs him with a round of buckshot. Not enough to drop him, but it's something.
He ducks back behind the fence, spying another brownshirt in the parking lot.
Zara closes Beatette's gentle, luscious eyelids, takes up his cannon, and has his revenge.
The fucker's chest cavity caves in as his body slumps to the ground.
Down south, Francois makes his way across the roadway and spies a guy lurking in a nearby alley. It's a long shot.
HeeeUP!
Godddddddd I wish these actually killed people.
Francsois hides behind a chain link fence.
ENEMY TURN
Francois takes an unlikely shot in the back from the guy in the parking lot, just beside the ship.
Some gunfire to the north as the SS continue slaughtering civilians.
Oof. That hurts.
Guess bullets CAN go through fences.
Yeah, he's down.
Grath sighs, and picks up his satchel.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Mongrel is done. He's done putting people back together.
He grabs a knife from the plunder pile.
And heads down toward Francios.
Back on the ship, Mazian is up. And in stunningly bad shape. He's basically just a muscle-memory zombie of stims and painkillers.
5 fucking health.
He picks up the pirate flag.
I've worked out that the flag actually boosts time units, morale, and energy of everyone within a certain radius of the flag (when "used"). This is everything Mazian needs right now.
On his way down, Grath spies that skinhead Francios speared last turn.
Mongrel charges through the smoke screaming.
That one's for Ziiro you son of a bitch.
Back at the fence, Grath tends to Francios, patching up his many mortal wounds.
We're in good shape. Just need Mongrel's medpack to pump him full of stims.
North of the ship, Smiler drops another brownshirt as he works his way through the open lot.
Aand Mazian passes out again, holding the flag.
Re: X-Piratez: Arr Y'Arr Gonna Die
Man, for a first stand, it sure feels a lot like a last stand. If we live through this, what glorious bonds of camaraderie will be forged between us!
That, or a buck-passing shitstorm of epic proportions.
