QUESTION TIME

Postby Mongrel » Mon Dec 29, 2014 11:35 pm

Any time you post in this thread, I may choose to respond by asking you a question, which you are expected to answer truthfully. Your answer or further responses to answers do not reward me with another question, but any standalone posts do.

Participation is optional.

This is a game we have on another board, and I know it sounds like a terrible idea, but it actually worked out to be pretty damned fun and people thought I was a pretty good questioner. I keep it random - this is not truth or dare or a sideways way of finding out your address so I can park a sailboat there.

Is anyone up for this?

You are involved in a complex financial scheme. As part of this scheme, you will be granted temporary ownership of one major sports team in any top-tier league in the entire world, but whatever you choose, you must do your best to completely ruin that franchise. The greater the loss in the value of that team before and after your tenure, the better you will do.

What sport, league, and team do you choose, and what do you do to ruin the team?

Remember! Most of the absolute best teams have a higher value to fall from, but they also have more dedicated morons fans who will stick with the team and attend games no matter what (See, e.g.: The Toronto Maple Leafs, home to the most valuable franchise, and also the dumbest fans in hockey).

What was the first TV show or movie you remember really making an impression on you?

I refuse to rename the team despite overwhelming pressure from all sides to do so.

For TV, Masters of the Universe. For movies, Ghostbusters.

Well there's no way this can backfire horribly. I am in your hands, good sir.

Do Canadians not name their sports teams after racial slurs or what

I think it speaks to intense personal failings that I really want to answer that question.
I should wait until it gets answered properly though.

Yeah, I don't mind if people want to say "I would have answered..." as well, but the questionee absolutely gets first crack.

Archibald Alastair Gloribus

I know it's pretty common for people to agonize over what name to give to fictional characters, but it never takes me more than a couple seconds. I guess some people might say it's because I don't give it enough thought (I'm writing a fantasy dealio these days whose protagonists are named Marie, Thomas, Ian, Felix and Gustav), but unless someone's trying to be extra clever for a very specific reason, I'm tempted to say those same people might be inclined to overthink it.

well that went alright

I know the proper name is Inuit, but Eskimo has never carried a negative connotation for me, so I wouldn't consider it a slur.

I do not suggest calling an innu dude an eskimo.

I tan easily when I get any sun and have some vaguely native-ish facial features due to a distant ancestor on my mother's side (in the nose mostly, or so I hear); idiots in high schools were calling me "eskimo" like it was an insult.
