Throwing a vote for Landstalker, because I can actually see myself playing it through all the way, and Virtua Racing, because that looks legitimately fun.

I like Bomberman, but it needs to do something more than the usual grid.

Kinda got me wanting to replay Bomberman Quest.

Mega Bomberman added all the best-worsts of Bomberman pvp. Stages that start with obscene power ups, moving floors, trap doors. Those fucking yoshi kangaroos. It also has the best selection of character models and an amazing 'DRAW' screen with a disappointed, mostly empty auditorium watching all the players' corpses spinning around in chairs.

Don't make me look up video clips before I'm even on a PC.

This round's all quality, but I did spend ridiculous amounts of time with Mega Bomberman, and Virtua Racing effing blew my mind. Though I could have easily seen myself pick Landstalker over the latter if its particular use of isometric perspective didn't give me headaches.

Landstalker is a legitimately great game, one the best of it's weird little sub genre

Virtua Racing was sort of a technological marvel and was the only genesis game to use a add-on chip for enhanced graphics as far as I know. It was also pretty good as far as 16-bit racing games go.

Mega bomberman is great, but it's also a strictly inferior port of a TG-16 game which hurts it for me.

I don't think Global Gladiators is on the level of the other three games

Shut up your face. This may be true because all I can find anywhere is '94 stuff and it's pretty identical. Except I hold that the genesis soundtrack is baller. So let's start there, and by start there I mean I just put one at the start of this post that everyone reading this already saw before reading this line. Done with that one yet? Okay.

They would eat one death in your place, and had special abilities based off color.

And dumb little cool things like a bunch of options for character models that I can't find any good shots of! But they show up a little (literally[the filter will make this fun]) in these shots of the victory screen that shows us even on Planet Bomber the ruling race is white*

and the more dismal draw screen

oh shit those are links

So I guess what I'm saying is this: half of you never played any of these games, Mega Bomberman was good enough to deserve one round at least.

*edit: that joke is less a joke and more just a weird racist statement with the '94 version of that image. This is the one I'm used to from MEGA

A valiant effort by beatbandit

BUT NOT ENOUGH

Isometric zeldalike and environmentally-themed McDonald's-themed platformer (what) make it to the next level

NEXT IT'S TWO PLATFORMERS VERSUS TWO PUNCHERS, TWO JAPANESE VERSUS TWO AMERICANS

Did you set the poll to only last for 40 minutes?

Streets of Rage 2.

I thought maybe Valis would be cool, but it looks and feels like a PC platformer.

Earthworm Jim is gorgeous and punishingly, aggravatingly difficult. A way better cartoon than game.

I swear to god, if you people don't vote for SoR2

I had to change one of my votes to Mortal Kombat. Not because it's anything like a good game, but because if anything defined the Genesis in the US even more than Sonic did, it's Mortal Kombat.

As far as I'm concerned, Streets of Rage 2 is legitimately one of the greatest games ever made, all platforms combined. The length is just about perfect, the gameplay feels pure without feeling sparse while mostly avoiding the deliberately unfair mechanics typical of its genre (since most of those are quarter munchers to begin with), and of course it still looks good and sounds incredible.
