I had to vote for both Life Force tracks, and I don't even have any nostalgia for that game.

I was expecting The Moon to be a lead contender for the finals, but it's losing to Kraid's Lair and a Lifeforce track.

Maybe they got sick of listening to it due to iwtbg

like now it's just bad memories of strange dragon devils and exploding into gibs

Moon is great; I just prefer the Game Boy version due to owning that game as a child.

32. Crystalis - Fields [ 4 ]
41. Lifeforce - Volcanic [ 5 ]
30. Ducktales - The Moon [ 6 ]
29. Metroid - Kraid's Lair [ 6 ]
68. Mega Man 3 - Title [ 12 ]
57. Kirby's Adventure - Nightmare Battle [ 5 ]
40. Lifeforce - Easter Temple [ 8 ]
24. Castlevania 3 - Mad Forest [ 8 ]

oh good, my first vote.

Well, I mean. It's the Moon, but it's also up against possibly my absolute favorite NES music track of all time? So, uh.

So long.

Advancing: Kraid, Easter Temple, Mad Forest, MM3 Title
Eliminated: Volcanic, Kirby, Crystalis, The Moon

Next up:

20. Ninja Gaiden 2 - Prologue
23. Double Dragon - Stage 1
79. Downtown Special: Kunio-kun No Jidaigeki Da Yo Zenin Shuugou! - Track 9 (Hills)
7. The Legend of Zelda - Main Theme
72. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Ending Theme
80. The Immortal - I Forbid You To Come Any Closer! (Battle)
27. Silver Surfer - Stage 1
10. Simon's Quest - Bloody Tears

Unlike Mario's main theme, I do believe the main theme from Zelda can stand here with the others.

I was tempted to cheat and post the actual opening to Ninja Gaiden 2, complete with rad thunder sound, and radness, and also rad ninjas and a rad evil overlord Shredder-alike villain named Ashtar who is rad and you're not rad if you don't vote for this theme? but then I was like nah

Also someone go get Sharkey, The Immortal is up

Also, Silver Surfer is the best game about a human-shaped soap bubble.

Downtown Special: Kunio-kun No Jidaigeki Da Yo Zenin Shuugou! - Track 9 (Hills) - I demand an award for nominating the longest track name in the poll.
Seriously though, this was a longshot of longshots and happened because I spent hours obsessing over the "classics" and then went "fuck that we're going off raw appeal not fame or notability". I don't think anyone here except maybe that person that's totally not Geo has played DSKKNJDYZS aka "Technos Samurai" but it's awesome. It's literally River City Ransom 2 set in feudal Japan, with a nonlinear map and even more crazy extra shit and odd weapons. The music can be a bit odd in places, but the whole soundtrack is as thematic as it gets, oozing with samurai flavor. This one track plays up in the hills and just really fits the game as a whole whether you're beating guys with a wooden cart or just somersaulting through the landscape at high speed. It's upbeat, full of arpeggios, and again, samurai as hell.

wow that was a lot no wonder I hit enter so much on irc, that looks so dumb

let's see uh

What the hell could I even say about the original main Zelda theme? Not much, but the choice of the title music instead of overworld is interesting. As downright fun as the peppy overworld is, the title crawl has that deep, resonant sound for the melody. It puts the "Legend" in the title well, lending a regal and impressive tone.
I mean it's also probably cribbing from Dragon Quest's intro music way more than we realized but hey it works.

I Forbid You To Come Any Closer is just rad. I think it's the heavy bass with that high, fancy trilling melody. The melody says "I am a learned and sophisticated person" and the accompaniment says "and I'm going to beat the shit out of you". It works well for an old gray wizard holding a sword. It also serves as the best example I've seen, to this day, of how much an arrangement can affect the quality of a song: compare the NES version to the Genesis trackif you want to hear how to absolutely ruin a chiptune.

Bloody Tears has been remixed about five billion times and that's only counting official Konami versions. There's a reason. If there was any criticism to be had of it it's that it could stand to be a bit longer, it's a pretty short loop, but that's in the sense that one scoop of ice cream isn't enough when it's so delicious.

That go-kart with a drill seems built well enough to take an entire crew to the center of the Earth. Who needs an enclosed cockpit (that seats more than one) when you're kicking up millions of tons of rock? Everyone else can just man up and walk through the silicosis armpit explosions.
